a BTS thing on the Enterprise bride in Season 2. There's Japanese subtitles. I guess this might have been ripped from the Blu-Ray?

It's a thing of beauty. It blows the rabid belief in some quarters that the present producers 'don't care' into a hat. It's funny, I'm sure I heard the Enterprise bridge was a redress of the Discovery one, but clearly not. Maybe I'm misremembering and it's the corridors that got redecorated?

Most notable thing for me is how infectious Anson Mount's enthusiasm is. He's clearly having a ball and I think he's going to bring a lot of positive energy into Strange New Worlds.

I don't blame Alex Kurtzman for moving Disco out of the pre-TOS era (I guess they got tired of listening to the canon fanatics squawking about "This violates the continuity established in season three, episode nine of ... ").

Now the haters are complaining that Kurtzman's jump to the 32nd century is itself disrespecting canon ("He hates Trek! Why can't he work within established canon?")

    Sigh ... :sigh:

There's no pleasing some people.

I can't wait for them to pore over "Strange New Worlds" ("Why couldn't they get Jeffrey Hunter?" Aside from the fact he's DEAD ... :shifty: )

I watch Star Trek to be entertained. Is it ever perfect? No. But it gets pretty close sometimes. The people who see it as a universe that has to remain perfectly consistent? Well, if that’s how they get their enjoyment that’s their choice. But I’m honestly not sure how they got through the Klingon change in TMP with that need for consistency.

It's not worth raising one's blood pressure over ("This, this, this, and this ... that's different from what was featured on Discovery!")

TPTB are doing it on purpose (the Picard forum is currently doing a frame-by-frame analysis/dissection of the S2 teaser trailer).

They know we're here (Last season, Jeri Ryan publicly called out one of our threads! )

    Xanax works wonders!

She talked about how we were obsessing over "Who is (Seven) crying over?"

We had a thread speculating about Icheb's death. The only way she could've known that was if she had seen THAT thread!

I mean, twitter probably was as well and facebook, or any number of other communities

We really aren't. There hasn't been any screencaps posted in several days lol. Most of it is just speculation now.

OK come at me...... This is how I feel about Calypso

I love Star Trek Discovery, I've loved all 3 seasons despite some of the eye rolling stuff they do.

I loved all of the short treks but why can't things like Calypso be their own thing?

Sorry guys why does everyone want so badly for Calypso to tie into everything else? Why the hell can't it be its own thing?

That's how I feel. Sorry had to vent.

    Also posted here on reddit.

Because Marvel. It's the same reason why we have to know canon status of every production output. We cannot think for ourselves or be entertained by the merits. It has to all connect and be canon to be enjoyable.

And this hyper-obsessiveness with canon is big enough that the production team finds it important enough to comment on.

Despite what most Trek fans think, canon does not mean continuity. Canon just means CBS says it's canon. Continuity means it's within the same "universe" more or less.

But really, something can be within continuity without in any way being referential to what came before. Like, they could come out with a Trek series set between TOS and TNG which (other than the general background of the Federation and established alien races) references absolutely no known individuals or events which happened in TOS, Enterprise, or Discovery. Indeed, to be within continuity, you mostly have to not conflict with what came before - not actively build on it.

As I've said in the past, I think that fundamentally the desire to make things "epic" and self-referential directly cuts against efforts to make a fictional universe seem huge in scope. If there are thousands of inhabited worlds, and trillions of individuals, and we keep seeing the same few dozen individuals...do the rest even matter?

The rest matters in one sense-we want to see what happened to our person favorites in this continuity. That is why each new show has a thread asking after Q, the Dominon, Ferengi, etc. etc. That's why I don't see Star Trek do anything new when it comes to its continuity. It will all tie together because that's what fans think they want and that is what production teams are willing to give.
