Based upon what experience? She was abandoned by Saw who was the closest thing to family after her parents died left her. Gratitude was probably not something she felt often, given she was moving from mission to mission and just trying to survive. She didn't know them, didn't know anything about them, and had no reason to trust them.

Jyn (correctly) assumed they freed her wanting her services in return and decided to make a run for it instead.

Does the idiom "out of the frying pan, into the fire" ring a bell?

I know that phrase. It originated in Goblin Town.

    I just thought of something:

When Jyn shoots that K-series droid (in Jedha City) and then K2SO comes up and says "Did you know that wasn't me?", Jyn - apparently trying to cover up a lie - says "Of course."

But Jyn should have known it wasn't K2SO, since the droid she shoots has red piping around its shoulders, whereas K2's is yellow. And Jyn is observant enough to notice this. :)

Since Jyn doesn't trust K2 why should she not leave K2 and Cassian the doubt that she could turn on them.

...in the faction of a second between seeing the movement out of the corner of her eye and pulling the trigger? OK...

My big Rogue 1 question has always been this. Why did Vader need to torture Leia for the location of the rebel base when clearly everyone on the Tantive IV had just come from there? In fact everyone involved in the attack on Scarif had just come from there. I guess it's possible no prisoners were taken over Scarif, though it seems unlikely given at least one ship was boarded, but clearly prisoners were taken on the Tantive IV.

Yeah, one of the many problems Rogue One creates as opposed to answering.

Yeah, don't get me wrong I like R1, but still remains a film designed to fill a plot hole that didn't need filling (imperial arrogance/incompetence always seemed a perfectly reasonable explanation for the exhaust port) which created new plot holes as a result!

The Empire HAD to have taken prisoners from the Profundity. Possibly up to and including Admiral Raddus himself...

I mean, it's possible that some of the Profundity's crew either escaped or committed suicide rather than talk, but ALL of them?

I have issue with the movie from a basic level.

It is a beautiful film, has some of the best action sequences in ground, air and space, and is the closest Star Wars has ever been to feeling like a war.

But I don't care about most of the characters.

I'm intrigued by the Cassian series just because he's got enough of a hook in Rogue One to make me care: How did this guy get to this point? And that's the one line he has about being a kid when he started this. What brought him to this point? But Jyn is insufferable. We don't really learn enough about the rest for me to give a damn. There's a familiarity between the characters that just doesn't feel earned (one of the guys' "little sister" line to Jyn... HUH? Cassian and Jyn being all lovey dovey at the end? WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?!?). I've gone round and round on the fan service and don't need to revisit that criticism too much, except to say that it does create a lot of issues just to get those "hey, remember this!" moments going. The movie's fine. I watched it maybe again maybe September or October and it is better than I remember. It just has a lot of flaws. I get that its a two-hour movie, but so many of my criticisms could have been dealt with spending more time with character and less with fan service.

    Just my $0.02.

I would rather say it exposed a problem as opposed to creating it, since Rogue One didn't introduce that much as far as the Empire's knowledge about the Rebels is concerned than Star Wars already did. The battle of Scarif was in the crawl, and everyone on all the ships – whether engaged in the battle or taking the plans – were clearly, and to Vader, rebels. That they had been at the rebel base is only revealed to the audience in Rogue One, but it's a reasonable assumption for Vader even without Rogue One. I guess slightly more uncertain, as it still left the possibility they were communicating at an arms' length with Leia's ship (a possibility that had never crossed my mind until it was asserted in Rebels), but there should have been at least an attempt to question everybody, and prisoners from the unnamed mentioned battle in the crawl as well.

I take it as whenever you expand on things, it leaves the rest of the story with less room to manoeuvre and expands its problems, so I don't mind it at all since I like more story, but I also why I don't like such expanding for sole the purpose of explanation. Explanations often make the thing that was being explain less likely, since they tend to go into specifics. There were million ways it could have happened, congratulations, you explained it, because of it now there's only one way, and we don't buy it!

Now we need a movie to explain why they needed the mind probe for Leia, and why Vader couldn't use the Force while we're at it. Not.

I think this is the biggest thing for me. It shows a lot of nice details and lore building but the characters are rather basic. I think that Galen Erso is the most interesting character, and he gets the least amount of time. Jyn lacks any of that identity to make me care. She embodies the "rebel without a cause' attitude but lacks a connectivity for me. Same with Cassian.

I love the lore but at the end it doesn't carry much weight.

    Latest one:

When Saw and his men capture Bodhi, why do they go to the trouble of using that big-ass monster to interrogate him? Why don't they just play back the message?

I mean, when Jyn is watching the message, it looks like Saw's never seen it either (judging from his facial expressions). Is Saw really so paranoid that he thinks it's some kind of bomb set to go off if anyone tries to view it?

This is one that I don't have a good answer to, aside from Saw's paranoia. It's pretty much a lot of garbage with the whole tentacle interrogator tension that ultimately goes nowhere.

They probably did. The trouble is Saw is so paranoid he doesn't believe it; thinking it's a trick or a trap. That the Empire is staging all of this to bait him out of hiding. He's been on the hunt for the Empire's secret weapon for YEARS at this point; has thought he'd gotten close before a number of times only for it to slip from his grasp; he no longer trusts *anything* at face value.
He doesn't even believe it when Bor Gullet presumably confirmed the story, which between the string of failures and his deteriorating mental state probably means that this apparent confirmation that Bodhi was telling the truth only convinced him even MORE that it's a trick. That the Empire must have brainwashed the pilot, or manipulate him into defecting with the fake message from Galen. He's almost afraid to believe that he's finally gotten the answers he's been searching for. Hell, for a moment there he even believes Jyn is an Imperial assassin, because that makes more sense to him than everything he's been after just falling into his lap.

It's only when he sees the message through Jyn's eyes that he's able to see past the fog of paranoia and mind games he'd trapped himself in.

What leapt out to me on my second viewing was the narrative convenience/laziness of having the daughter of the Death Star's architect be the adopted kid of a major insurrectionist the Alliance is trying to make contact with. Granted, famous and notable people are often linked through family and/or close friendships in the real world, but it just didn't make for a very compelling story.

^ How else would Saw have wound up in the film to begin with?

Mon Mothma did say that Saw and his ilk had caused many problems for the Alliance, so I guess some other story arc could have been drawn up, but I don't see how that would have been any less awkward than what we got.
