Spoilers Season 4 Trailer

I’m a little perplexed that people complain about Star Trek needing to get away from a villain, and here is a season that would appear to be more about surviving a dangerous and mysterious anomaly, and yet people are still upset. I think this has the opportunity to be a puzzle solve/cooperation type of season that I personally have been waiting for.

Isn’t that what we just had? I think part of Discovery’s challenge, when it comes to trailers, is trying to sell the notion that Trek tropes that were resolved perfectly satisfactorily in 42 minutes need to be stretched out over a whole season. Would anyone want a whole season of the Crystalline Entity? Or 12 hours of Timescape?

Kind of a shame TNG used up Yesterday’s Enterprise, because you could get a whole season out of that, between the anomaly, the altered timeline and meeting the C. But maybe less is more.

Another f'ing galactic-ending arc! Enough already. When the stakes are always big, it's hard to care. Disco is like the Marvel team-up movies of the Trek universe.

Still love the cast and characters, especially Burnham. I'm excited to see her as captain (at last!), but the serialized storytelling is rote.

Nothing in the trailer says it’s galaxy ending. It’s only 5 light years wide, that’s hardly galaxy threatening.
Size matters not--oh wait, wrong franchise. Regardless, just one Borg cube is much smaller than 5 light years wide, and the whole galaxy goes into a panic over just one.

Like potato chips, you can never have just one.

Nice to have

- Saru back, and in red, and promoted (although what the heck is he doing bowing to lowly Burnham again?)
- Tilly, and in blue, and promoted
- At least some interiors redone
- More Ni'Var

Sorry to NOT see

- President Kovich so far (did he lose the latest election to this woman we see?)
- seatbelts (it'll be a short season if installing those will save the galaxy!)
- any hint of new regulars (unless that second Kelpien is it)
- Chief Engineer (but its good that Stamets stays in blue)

Otherwise, this is the most "same-o" trailer (and season?) of DSC so far. Nothing wrong with that as such, but total reworking of concept at least once per season, and often twice, has been the trademark so far. So at most I'll risk being disappointed that I only get one season at the price of one...

At 00:45 it looks like Saru has been promoted. Still wearing the Captains Batch on his right Shoulder and an additional Badge at the black part of his Uniform. Fleet-Captain or Commodore ?

It looks like it's the same badge he was wearing in Kelpien civvies so more likely a cultural thing like Worf's sash or the bajoran earrings than a Sarfleet insignia.

I think it works for the Admiralty. TMP and the Kelvin Films had the right idea with that.

It's also possible that they've adopted having colors for starships and grays for stations.

Never liked the "one uniform for ships, one uniform for stations" idea.

Best guess, either (a) this scene precedes any uniform changes or (b) they just aren't bothering to change the uniforms for the other 32nd Century Starfleet, in their brightly lit sets -- which will make little sense in-universe but would be about par for the course...

I don't think Kovich was ever intended to be the President.
He was always more like Starfleet Intelligence (+/- Section 31...)

I wonder whether S4 could possibly be several years after S3. I mean, the writers so far have had no problem squeezing a millennium into an episode, or a whole year in two for Burnham. Letting the crew settle, and perhaps solidify their status as Starfleet's Special Spore Service, before the next galactic crisis strikes would do the drama a world of good.

I mean, no, it won't be. But it could. And should.

Yes, I like this idea as lot -- it would make a lot of sense -- but I agree that it seems unlikely they'll do it.
