I gave up on both Enterprise and Voyager, but I did watch (and like) the final season of Enterprise. I’ve also never watched all of DS9, but that’s more indifference and inertia than dislike.

I think it’s easier for me to give up on these shows when they feel too familiar and repetitive (end of Berman era) than when I think they’re bad (Disco season 1). At least with bad I can hope it gets better, and Discovery has, in fairness, improved since its first season.

This was the first time my primary reaction was “Disco is out of steam” — that I’d seen it before and didn’t care to see it again.

At this point, we don't know anything about the story arc other than there's going to be a gravitational anomaly around 5 LY in diameter and that it would somehow force the various states in the region to work more closely together. It doesn't necessarily have to be about university-ending stakes, and even if we're going with a crisis again, this might very well turn out to be much different and much closer in tone and message to a classic Trek episode stretched over a season: for all we know, we might not actually have a named villain with a face, just some anomaly that threatens the safety of the region and the various people must set aside their differences and band together to find a solution which might very well involve scientific discovery. Even when Classic Trek was about exploration and discovery, it was usually about something dangerous, often threatening a planet or a region.

    Too logical and reasonable ;)

Also, it reminds me almost exactly like V'Ger or the Crystalline Entity or something like that from the dialog.

At 00:45 it looks like Saru has been promoted. Still wearing the Captains Batch on his right Shoulder and an additional Badge at the black part of his Uniform. Fleet-Captain or Commodore ?

Escalating Stakes are part of this series' DNA. Which is why it's better off in the Distant Future.

I suspect this is what brings the Federation back together again.

    First thoughts:

    - LOVE the new uniforms
-LOVE the message of unity and coming together in uncertain times.
-Saru is back in uniform and back as part of the crew apparently given he's at the first officer station on the bridge
    - The Federation President is a Cardassian hybrid!
    - T'rina is back!
    - It looks like Federation HQ gets beat up by the gravitational anomaly. Vance better not die

This is the pick me up I needed today.

Yeah, it looks like this isn't a universe ending calamity, but its travel is random, so the next place damaged/destroyed could be anyone. Thus the need for cooperation.

Vance is in the trailer, for like half a second, so it's not surprising most people missed him. His voice is also heard early on though shortly before we hear Tilly talk.

I enjoyed it - glad we'll see a bit more of Ni'var this coming season.

I thought that looked fun. Typical DSC stuff, which I have enjoyed.

I’m a little perplexed that people complain about Star Trek needing to get away from a villain, and here is a season that would appear to be more about surviving a dangerous and mysterious anomaly, and yet people are still upset. I think this has the opportunity to be a puzzle solve/cooperation type of season that I personally have been waiting for.

At this point, I really don’t know what people expect. Star Trek: Discovery isn’t going to have an arc about Saru’s difficulties with an alien necktie or Stamets and Culber arguing over what kind of soup to eat.

I guess I just have to accept that I feel very VERY differently about the franchise than others do.

I think it works for the Admiralty. TMP and the Kelvin Films had the right idea with that.

It's also possible that they've adopted having colors for starships and grays for stations.
