yeah, that annoyed me too on discovery. And it’s not even that funny as a parody.I enjoy parodies, especially of shows I like, but when they started using profanity like "Dick" I tuned out immediately.
It's starting to get very bad

episode one of lower decksI can honestly say I never noticed use of "dick" in LDS or Disco. Nor would I consider it profanity any more than "idiot"
Shows that have intelligent writers. If the use of the word “dick” makes you tune out of a show, I wonder what kind of television show there's left for you to watch. Some Disney children's program?
I think there is a YouTube Yoga program that is very nice though. If the use of the word “dick” makes you tune out of a show, I wonder what kind of television show there's left for you to watch. Some Disney children's program?
I don't think a reference counts as a joke. It's not funny, it's just something for us to go "Oh, I get that!" so we can get a little dopamine hit. There's a lot more potential in a show like this than just references and to me, it feels like Mike McMahan is just flexing his Trek knowledge.
Meh, obscure references relatively few will get is the kind of humour Family Guy's been specializing in for twenty years and it's one of television's most popular shows. So what if Lower Decks wants to do something similar just with Star Trek trivia? For the die hard fans like me, it makes for quite the fun experience.
I already have no great love for fanservice just on principle. I especially dislike it when people insist on calling it fanwank.I find the fan service and fun Easter eggs to be the BEST part of the show. The plots and most of the characters could be taken or left as far as I’m concerned. But the rapid-fire fanwank is a thing of joy as far as I’m concerned.

Jury's still out. It's an ok show. It's the strongest of TV's Kurtzman Treks. But that alone doesn't necessarily make it worth my continued commitment.

“More comedic”? It's a full-on comedy. It's not meant to be taken too seriously at all.
I agree, though, that the lightning-fast dialog filled with as much Trek in-jokes per second as possible could be toned down just a tad. Other than that I'm still pretty surprised how much I like the show, the setting, the characters, the style and the humor.
I'm not really a fan of how referential it is. I get it, McMahan loves TNG and we live in pretty creatively bankrupt times, but the constant references and fan service is getting a bit much. Obviously some of that is great, but I think he takes it a step too far.
I would prefer it be a little cleaner to introduce kids to Star Trek, but one hopes Prodigy may fit the bill.
I am definitely trying. I think the fun quotient is what would attract the kids. There's no reason any of the existing incarnations, which did attract children at the time despite a lot more episodes/content being clearly adult-themed, can't be used - just because they aren't drawn animated cels?
