Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

That's what I meant yes, my video 55 seconds in. it's slow and deep. It also repeats later in the track.

I caught it now. Very subtle. It's this kind of thing that always gets me when some folks say the people making the Star Trek these days "don't care". There's a lot of thought goes in.

I saw a new photo on twitter of Patrick Stewart wearing a mask and there's a pitbull that looks alot like Number One .It makes me wonder if he was filming a scene for Picard Season 2.Jonathan Frakes has gotten his second dose of the Vaccine and says he wants to go back to work.
Frakes looks like a little old lady in his vaccination pic:lol:

He said "Shit" because he had his emotion chip going haywire and it was so unexpected for Star Trek and Data that everyone laughed. Now they are just throwing it in, because they want to be cruel and shocking to the audience.
If I am shocked by this language then I have bigger issues than watching Star Trek...and cruel? Not even close.

Then tell me what the point of it is then, other than dumbing down Star Trek?
How is the use of profanity that can date back almost 500 years, depending on the source, dumb it down?

Star Trek has always increased the language as film standards would allow for the story they wanted to tell. It makes them just a little bit more human rather than the sterilized avatars that TNG would often present.

It's not like they are swearing every other word in these shows. They use it once or twice.

I hear that more listening to some comedians or playing current video games. I would recommend watching "The History of Swear Words" with Nicolas Cage on Netflix to see how long the word has been around. It's use is not dumbing anything down.

Actually, I think there are studies out there that suggest that people who use more profanity are proven to be smarter.

ASIDE FROM THAT HALF-JOKING POINT, profanity is never going to go away. You'll notice that none of the legacy characters utilize the F bombs, so everyone's visage of perfect humanity is pretty much still intact. There are different sects of people. People who use profanity. People who don't. People who like the Beatles. People who like the Rolling Stones. People who like both. People who like neither. The point is, there are maybe ten F bombs in all of season one of Picard. On an average day, I use two or three, but I know people who use a lot more and people who use a lot less. There are different types of people in 2021 just as there are different types of people in the 24th century as portrayed in Star Trek. I don't see a problem with its use. I don't think a temper tantrum over its use or not-use on an online forum is going to change the use in Trek as it stands now. You don't have to like it. Piece has been said. We move on.
