Dawes really needs to come back for an episode or two, even if it is just a transmission or a quick scene of him talking about Marcos like with Fred, there will be a giant "Dawes" shaped hole otherwise. I mean there are always ways around it, like one of his "underlings" takes over and he is killed off screen, but I always feel like it lessens things greatly. Babylon 5 had this issue, when General Hague was double booked by DS9 so his commander took over, everything felt worse off for it.

It takes some time to work out what to do when you've painted yourself so far into a corner. What would Adama or Janeway do? I have a vague idea how things might get resolved but not the specifics.

Got Season 5 binged last night. I had forgotten why I love this series, but the great characters and invested story and beautiful visuals reminded me. Definitely the thing I'm willing to wait a couple months for the full release and enjoy.

So was I. In the greater scheme of things, it's no hardship to wait a few months. I hope the writers have planned things in advance and don't just trundle out a hackneyed deus ex machina.

I'm looking for some Bobbie Draper fanart (other than what's on deviantart, artstation, redbubble, etsy) to put up on my wall.
If you have some, would be very appreciated if you could share them or let me know where I can find them.

Excellent video breaking down all the space fights in the finale. I didn't even notice half of the details they mentioned. The show VFX is kick ass!

I just finished the new season. I dunno what all the complaints are about, I actually liked it a lot more than the last season ‍♂️

More Kim's Convenience cross casting!!!! Yay for Mr. Mehta!

Is it just me or did the budget take an obvious cut this season? Or maybe they needed it for all of Amos' outdoor activities? The ships just looked super cardboardy to me. Not that it was an issue, the show was great.

Alex... Well, it sucked. Him and Shohreh Aghdashloo were my favs on the show. With the behind the scenes stuff they didn't have a choice. It is what it is ‍♂️.

Glad they are getting back to the proto molecule next season.

I'm actually listening to the audiobook of the first book one right now. I had a friend who said I'd hate the show when I read the books but I'm pretty good with both right now

    *ahem* Recast!

    Well...

You won't hate it. You'll just like it less. The first couple of episodes of the show? Those you'll hate. :) Honestly, the trope of "They were all ready to kill each other and then they became a family" thing they put into the show? Errrgh. Oh, and I can't stand Show Holden for a good chunk of the first season. Show Naomi is annoying too. Book Naomi is amazing. The show gets better the closer the characters get to the books. (This is why the Amos and Peaches story in season 5 was perfect.)

I’m reading books now and compared to the show, they are... different. Books are more detailed in some aspects, while Show focuses more on characters. Best example is Avasarala, who is not even in the books until the second one, but in the show from very beginning. I like them both differently

The biggest difference I noticed between the first book and the show (aside from Avasarala and Earth in general not being in it at all) is that the ordering of events are a little different. Where in the show the Roci first finds the stealth ship, which then leads them to follow Julie to Eros; the books it's the other way around in that they go straight to Eros and that whole situation happens, and after they escape they backtrack Julie's course to the parked stealth ship and get the backstory and context for what they just witnessed.
Honestly, I think both versions of that is the right one for their respective medium, which to me is the telltale sign of an excellent adaptation. For a live action show, you want that clear and progressive ramping up of the stakes, so you first show the audience the stakes and save that whole mess on Eros for the finale where they get that sense of inevitable dread about what's about to go down. For a book, it's best to pace that stuff out and not frontload with too much exposition, having the revelations and backstory told after the fact helps pull the narrative along a little better. Plus you really don't want to rely on action too much in a book, as that is almost always the fastest way to bore one's readership.

Another vital difference is in the world building, especially regarding the belters. The book only gives you a little bit here and there, and maybe the odd Belter Creole phrase, but the show out of necessity had to develop it a lot more because of the realities of a live action production. A book can just describe the underbelly of Ceres in less than a paragraph, but a show has to make it. That means production design, graphic design for the signage, extras and bit players with dialogue need things to say and accents to say them in.

Oh and as for Jarred Harris coming back; I've been listening to Ty Franck & Wes Chatham's podcast and I honestly wouldn't hold my breath. Apparently they've tried to get him back a few times over the past couple years but despite being more than willing to do so, he's been just so unbelievably busy and in such high demand of late that they can never seem to book him in time. Hopefully they managed to work it out for this last season, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just can't make it happen.

I can't imagine Harris is cheap either and money seems to be on short supply for the show.

I don't imagine he's cheap either, but at the same time I doubt his rates are exactly outrageous. If they were, then he'd have priced himself out of the market and wouldn't be in quite so much demand since most shows (especially genre shows) also have just as tight budgets as 'The Expanse'. I think if it was just a matter of money; for Jared they'd find the money to make it happen.

I'm looking at his IMDB and other than massive flagship streaming productions with incredibly huge budgets (Foundation, Carnivals Row) the last "normal" genre production he was in was The Expanse

“Everyone leaves unfinished business. That’s what death is.”
    - Amos

Bummer about Alex. A hero’s death.

    When Bobbie grabbed Naomi...:wah:

I too am glad we’ll be back to the protomolecule/ring stuff. Nice twist at the end, my son and I could not figure out why Mars was helping Inaros. Now we know.

I really hope they stick the landing. I would say right now, this is my favorite Sci-Fi show of all time.

    Now bring it home.
