Faith Based is free right now on Prime. It's about a slacker who decides to do something with his life by making a Christian movie because of how profitable they are no matter how bad even though he doesn't know the first thing about filmmaking. And he'll split the money with his adoptive father who is a pastor so he can save the church.
I wanted to like this film. Christian filmmaking is ripe for the picking because of how phony and poorly made they are, how they preach to the choir and feed into a persecution complex with straw man villains and absurd plots. And so many people of the Fox News and Breitbart ilk were offended by the movie before it even came out, so that's more bonus points.
But it felt a little too amateur hour, even with actors like Lance Reddick and Jason Alexander in it. And it wasn't as biting as it could've been. Felt a little too lightweight and thin, and the moviemaking part ended up being the least interesting aspect of it. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive though, so I guess I'm in the minority.
Have to give it credit for how it portrayed one character becoming a Christian. Much better than anything starring Kevin Sorbo or Dean Cain would've done.
