What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Honestly, given the stern talking to Picard gives the businessman over inappropriately use the comm system because people in the 24th century know better and can exercise personal restraint I don't see the issue. People are supposed to be able to exercise responsibility after all.

If there ever was an anti-undocumented political movement in America that wasn't shot through with racism, the last four years killed it dead. Folks who used to be respectably conservative in the sense that was possible a generation ago have no political home here, now.

I should probably amend my statement from above. I've probably never been directly accused of racism or sexism in this forum, but I've read many, many posts where DSC fans (not all of them, but a subgroup) generalizes any criticism of Burnham as such, basically lumping them in with the fandom menace and twitter-ranting ex-writers for Trek. And I have read replies to thoughtful, nuanced criticism accusing them of these biases.

Oh I agree with this as well. There's a lot of legitimate reasons why someone might not like Burnham and/or Discovery, I myself aren't the biggest fan. The show itself isn't to my personal taste (though season 2 was not bad), I'd prefer Tilly or Stamets as main characters over Michael and I would have vastly preferred it if the whole of Discovery would have been like the first half of the first episode, detailing the adventures of kick-ass Captain Gergoriou with her trusted officers Burnham and Saru (and Tilly and Stamets etc.)
And even as far as "female black main characters in Star Trek" goes, I honestly would say that Mariner is, to me, a lot more interesting and likeable than Michael, maybe it's because at this point in time I do prefer light-hearted comedy to serialized drama.
But just like there's a subgroup among DISC fans that cries "chauvinism/racism" at any critique, there IS also a subgroup of non-DISC fans who do seem to hate Burnham and DISC for the wrong reasons ("too much diversity" "misandry!" "woke propaganda" etc.).

IIRC, all weapons were secured in an arms locker until required, such as on an away mission..

Unless you wish to deem a tri-corder as a weapon. Then Katy bar the door. ;)

Everything is a weapon to the inventive. As I so demonstrated to a cocky kid at work once.

Yeah. I don't dislike her, but I like most other characters better, from Culber (a favorite), Stamets to Reno, Owo (would like to see more of her), Tilly, Adira, Saru...

My main gripes are with storytelling and character development, though.
And yes to the bolded, loved Prime Georgiou. (Modern Trek has a knack for killing off characters I like, like Hugh on Picard).

True, and they should be called out. I like to think that most of them do not post in this forum, though...

Oh, I LIKE you! :D

Yes. I read it, and I totally agree with it.
Quite simply, we need immigrants to sustain our population. Because of our "two kids is the perfect family" philosophy, we're graying and decreasing in number (because of infertility, accidents, and losers in love, we need an average of about 2.4-2.6 kids per fertile woman). So yes, let's streamline the immigration process. But I still maintain that opposition to illegal immigration is not necessarily racism.
