What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

can see what you mean.....voyager is like a newspaper where you can read an article and put the paper down

DS9 is like a novel, you cannot read a paragraph, you have to read the whole book

That's it, with the caveat that both are perfectly valid ways to spend one's time. On the flip side, though the idea of marathoning Deep Space Nine is always at the back of my mind (I haven't watched any of it in over a decade), the idea of watching Voyager seasons 1-7 back to back is mortifying.

Gosh, I'm used to another forum where you can go back and edit posts, so sorry for posting back to back but:

Overall, I like TAS better than DS9.

Any time, anywhere, any day. I love TAS. Even the crap episodes are over before you know it and it's rarely anything less than entertaining. Some days I think I'd take TAS over TOS. There's a controversial opinion.

Editing posts comes with time.

Hardly conservative-specific values...

You missed the point. Steve was wondering why CONSERVATIVES like Star Trek. If it promotes virtues that conservatives appreciate, they will appreciate Trek.

Not among the pseudo-military, sure. Plus, those weapons have a stun setting...

And also a setting that can destroy a building. And is there any evidence that private ownership of weapons is forbidden?

Hardly USA-specific values...in fact in many ways other countries do better in this regard. Just try and get drugs and a prostitute in America...

I agree, we should legalize weed and prostitution. We've legalized adultery and homosexuality, so cheaters and gays can score... why can't social outcasts get some?

But when the party that's supposed to represent conservative views makes legal immigration virtually impossible (specifically from Mexico, South and Central America and Muslim majority countries), demonizes caravans of asylum seekers, separates kids from their families, defunds the border patrol while advocating a big wall, gets caught sterilizing people in camps, elect some one who called Mexicans rapists in his campaign announcement...at a certain point it's hard not to consider conservatives guilty by association no matter how not racist they may be personally.

1. Donald Trump is scum, and I never voted for him.
2. I agree, we need to streamline the legal immigration process.
3. You might think we're intolerant of immigrants... but try sneaking into most other countries and demanding work, welfare, citizenship, and all of it in English. At best, they'll laugh at you and throw you out. At worst, you'll be shot while trying to enter.

I mean no disrespect, but what the ever-living fuck are you going on about?

Going off-topic for a quick moment. Mods, I promise to get back on, after I get this one thing out of the way. No, it's not what you think...

If it helps you to know, my father is a Republican and he didn't vote for Trump either. So I know for a fact that not all conservatives support him. (Though I'd call my father more of a moderate than a conservative). My mother was also a Republican and, if she were alive, I don't think she would've voted for him either.

So I agree that not everyone should be painted with the same brush.

Anyway, Star Trek. Might as well go with "an oldie but a goodie"....

Who's a better Captain? Kirk or Picard? I'm going with Kirk. :p

Kirk. His hair is better.

Okay, a couple of things...

Yes, it’s time for the off-topic politics to come to an end. There are several other fora where you can discuss that until you puke.

Second, and more important, Kirk’s not fit to carry Picard’s jockstrap.

And finally, Janeway is better than both of those clowns.

I think we’re done here.

Demanding?

Politics always makes the most interesting discussions. Mainly because both sides believe that if the other wins, it's the end of civilization as they know it. Pity most forums either (1) don't allow political discussions, (2) are exclusively populated by people who agree with me (which gets old really fast), or (3) disagree with me but all dissent is blocked.

Pardon me, but I must say something.

Benjamin 'Feel the Pimp Hand of My Starship Defiant' Sisko is THE best captain.

(I would use some kind of picture that would illustrate what I said, but I am terrible at finding and posting such things. I'll leave it to your imaginations.)
