After Black Lightning's season debut two weeks ago, this is the most exciting fantasy series coming up on the schedule.

    The Walking Dead
    Season 10 - Episode 17 - "Home Sweet Home"

Daryl: Despite his efforts of trying to keep everyone else stable, he seems like he has reached the point of finally wanting something for himself. He did tease hitting the road in episode 16, so his behavior might be more groundwork laid for his departure.

Carol: Well, she took the hit with Maggie about her involvement with Negan's release / the death of Alpha. I just hope this does not lead to Carol spiraling in guilt again. Speaking of the Whisperers...

The Whisperers: No one ever said all of the Whisperers were killed in the previous episode's battle. In fact, a few were still running around in the nighttime fight (as the heroes were using music to lure the walkers away), so where did they end up?

Maggie: What emotions would Negan expect from her? He may have been used to his lackeys just rolling over / accepting his random acts of murder, but to kill a woman's husband in front of her is not something the passage of time--or his aid in killing Alpha--is going to heal.
Of note, Georgie headed "out west", which all but screams a possible connection to Fear the Walking Dead, despite the show not being on a concurrent timeline with TWD.

Interesting that Georgie's group--as organized as she claimed they were--fell apart, unless she had ties even Maggie did not know about.

Much was made of Hershel's cap--supposedly it was the one Glenn wore over the course of seasons 1 and two, but someone needs to explain how its still around, since Glenn lost / left his behind after the fall of the Greene farm. Sure, he could have found another for nostalgia's sake, but that never played out on screen.

    Negan:
I doubt anyone knows where his arc will lead, but it would be wise to avoid the expected conflict with Maggie, as it can only end up in one place, and from what we've seen, Maggie is a far wiser woman than she used to be.

    NOTES:
The Reapers...well, the heroes cannot get a good breath in before another enemy group rears its head. They--whatever their numbers--have no regard for life at all, not even their own--so they might be considered a more nihilistic (and better armed) version of The Whisperers, sans the "we are dead, too" philosophy.

This might also be a link with FEAR—- death is just the beginning, and all. That seems a death cult.

In news articles it was said that Darryl was supposed to be the lead character when Rick left.... him being a loner and introvert, his prence doesn't seem domineering like Rick, but this episode definitely highlights his importance to this show.

Did Maggie and Darryl ever have any significant interaction on the show before? Even if not, Darryl was the perfect person for Maggie to talk about regarding Carol, and bridging any divide between them

regarding the "departure"... not sure how they will handle that. And will that mean Connie, after all that effort to survive, will die after all? (Kinda like a Glenn situation). And Ezekiel? The news that Maggie brought... not sure how that would work for Ride with Darryl and Carol?
I think she has learned to not try to hide stuff, especially with this. Painful as it was, it was the right thing to do. She knows Carol would do whatever she had to,in order to protect the group. So she needs to need to process it somehow. Talking with Darryl was a great way to bridge that potential divide with Carol.
    .
Honestly i am not sure that matters. I mean, Alpha had JUST gotten a Gamma, and there wasn't a Delta waiting in the wings. I imagine most of the survivors were very low level people. Either they mght be overjoyed in being released from the cult, decided to die like Beta (or too weak to srvive on their own), or might be smart enough to ditch their whisperer stuff and sneak in as refugees (like past Whisperers), but with the intention of being part of a "normal" community
    .
To me, it felt like they were going somewhere with Georgie, then dropped it. Like was she a founder of the COmmonwealth, perhaps? (or they were thinking that when she was introduced?)

And kinda sad that all other communities have fallen apart. Is there a map to show which areas were attempted (in addition to the mentioned Knoxville)?
    .
Did they say it was the original cap? If so, where? I still think it was one Maggie found, that was similar, to remind her of Glenn. And the actor who portrays Herschel was perfect in the role -- definitely felt like we had Glenn back (in a sense). Curious if his character knew Judith, and if so, would they be able to have a reunion. I didn't pay too much attention about Judith, but Herschel for sure was "socially distanced" from everybody else. Being in a tree was a great way to do it. But might make for some limited interaction with them and any adult.
    .
Surprised you didn't mention Elijah at all? I am glad Kelly bonded with him, and making this group connecting quickly is good. (Yeah, we need character conflict, but it's fine not for this group). But his mini mental breakdown seems kinda outta the blue. When we were first introduced to him LAST episode, he seemed like a bad ass. And at the beginning , he reminded me a lot of Snake Eyes from GI Joe. i don't recall him seeing his friends get murdered...so was that the trigger? It just felt too quick, very unlike breakdowns our longtime characters have had, which would make much more sense for them (and us the audience beign with them on that journey).

Also, i saw a bit of Talking Dead , and Angel Theory appreciated this episode helping add some characterization between the sisters... and the way she interacted with Maggie, felt very natural.

i guess it would be good for a connection...but i am kinda sick of death cults...seems like we have been down that path before. And at this point in the apocalypse, how helpful is that? Would love the Fear connection...but not sure if this makes sense. We will see...

Oh, he's important, but the idea of a spin-off would justify his still feeling he's not found his own home.

Off and on, Daryl and Maggie have been fairly close, and have grown closer due to Daryl's relationships with Beth, Hershel and Glen. In fact, the two had a pretty emotional moment a few seasons ago, when Daryl was apologizing for Glenn's death (believing his punching Negan triggered the extra killing).

Virgil found Connie, so we can assume he will send her to his group--the same place Michonne was headed in her search to find Rick.

Unless his new captors have advanced medical services, he will eventually die.

They might head out West, following Georgie's group, or perhaps Fear will do a time jump so its characters (whoever is left) can meet up with Daryl and Carol.

Agreed. Maggie knew the price her friends were paying to the Whisperers (the beheadings), and that level of butchery would only intensify if Alpha was not killed. By now, Carol's judgement regarding the leaders of enemy groups has been fairly sharp. Looking back, if Andrea took Carol's advice about the Governor, he would have died, and its very likely the group would still live at the prison (as I did not see Martinez seeking to escalate a conflict if their own leader was vulnerable), but...
    .
It seemed that she was supposed to the comic version, but Maggie's account made her seem like she was just scraping by until everything fell apart.

No, just the areas Maggie discussed, but its interesting that Maggie headed to the deep south again, after all she lost in that region.

    .
The attention paid to the cap made it appear as if it was Glenn's passed on to Hershel, which it could not be.

At the time Maggie and Hershel lived at Hilltop, they did not interact much with the Alexandria group, so I doubt Judith has much of a relationship with Hershel.

I was sort of waiting for more information about him to come up before going into his character.

Agreed; Maggie and Kelly sharing the pain of lost sisters (although Kelly is hoping that Connie somehow survived) is a sub-plot that could be developed over time.

Pretty good episode. Great to have Maggie back and we got some great interactions with her reuniting with Daryl and getting to know Kelly. I liked how they inverted expectations with Elijah, at first he seems this mysterious badass with a secret identity, and when unmasked we see he's really a young and scared guy who just happens to also know how to fight. What little we see of Young Hershel was interesting, in a lot of ways he really is a younger version of Glenn. The mysterious Reapers who are apparently led by someone named Pope who has it out for Maggie according to the sniper seems a promising storyline to run through this sort of mini season.
Doubtful. The main motivation behind doing these bonus episodes was basically to give production a dry-run to see what will and won't work with filming a show during the pandemic, so they'd know how to handle filming season 11 as well as the coming seasons of Fear and World Beyond. And while that does not mean these six episodes are in any way disposable, it does mean this is not the most appropriate time to be syncing story arcs up between the two shows.

Besides, the current season of Fear is still set prior to Rick's departure and Walking Dead's subsequent six year time jump. If these Reapers are those guys from Fear, that would be providing some serious spoilers about how that storyline will play out on Fear.

I watched the episode this morning, and I thought it was pretty good, not spectacular, but I enjoyed it.
Maggie has been one of my favorite characters, so it was nice to get an episode focused on her now that she's back. We got some nice scenes with her and Daryl, and her and Kelly.
It also gave us a nice introduction to Herschel.
We got an interesting introduction to the Reapers. From the guy's clothes and behavior I'm getting a feeling these guys are going to be a bit more militant than some of the other groups they've dealt with before.
I wonder if we're going to be getting everybody split off into smaller groups as part of their response to the pandemic. This week we only had a handful of characters, and it looks like next week is going to be mostly Carol, Daryl, and the woman Daryl met while he was out looking for Rick.

Yes, each episode will only focus on a small group of characters exactly because of pandemic precautions. Of the remaining episodes after next week's we get:
-An episode about Gabriel and Aaron with guest star Robert Patrick.
-An episode catching up with Ezekiel, Eugene, Yumiko and Princess picking up where the finale left off.
    -Another Daryl and Carol adventure.
-A flashback about Negan and his wife Lucille, who will be played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan's actual wife.

Numbers are in. 2.89 million watched the premiere of the half season - which is more than the 2.73 who watched the standalone finale. Still the second lowest of the show's history though.

Do the ratings really matter anymore? We know the show is ending next year regardless.

How many are subscribers of AMC+? I would suspect the vast majority of those have subscribed with TWD as a major reason. Also, does it take into account DVR/On Demand viewings?

I thnk it matters in how it affects the rets of the franchise. If the most popular of all the shows is doing bad, it might not bode well for current and future projects (even the Rick movies that are supposedly happening)

Also, next season is the freaking ending of the walking dead. I wish it could go out with a bang, not this whimper. This was literally the most watched show on television for a bit!

I honestly can't remember how long it's been since I've actually watched TWD on TV. I either watch them on the AMC website, or if I fall to far behind, on Netflix.

Yeah, I always talk about ratings but never watch live. Everything is on the DVR, which does count for ratings for some reason, even though we skip commercials.

Yes, DVR numbers are included with ratings, but On Demand and AMC+ aren't. Indeed, given this episode was available on AMC+ a whole week before it aired on AMC, broadcast night ratings really don't mean a whole lot.

    Season 10 - Episode 18 - "Find Me"

Daryl: Poor Daryl--he was hanging on for so long that he would find a sign of Rick, referring to him as his brother.

I disagree with most--or all of his accusations hurled at Carol; he charges that she had "to be right" regarding killing Alpha, but he skipped over the part about Henry. Alpha and The Whisperers were essentially holding ASZ/Hilltop hostage with forced borders and more threats of gruesome acts of punishment. How would anyone deal with that? Carol's means--using Negan--may not have been to anyone's approval, but Alpha had to die to set The Whisperers' destruction in motion.

While anyone can appreciate Daryl searching for Rick, he was shooting misplaced anger at Carol for the Leah situation, and she was correct--he does blame himself for the loss of friends, when any rational mind accepts that in every case tied to his direct action, the fate of his companions might have ended up the same way.

    Carol:
"we've had good long run. longer than most."
"..like everything that's good in the world is not on our side anymore."
Pretty much The Walking Dead State of the Union, as she is finally realizing that no matter how hard they fight, they end up devastated in one way or another. If that was another nod toward a spin-off, it would not make much sense, as they would simply exchange one overrun Hell-hole for another (presumably in the West), as Morgan discovered.

She's so brokenhearted that the one friend who never abandoned her has now tossed her aside in such a brutal way. As she pointed out, even their luck (as friends) has run out. Still, if there's going to be a spin-off, we can assume they will iron out their differences, but she needs to call Daryl out about his accusations, and how much of it were based on genuine belief or anger.

Leah: Leah was so hurt by Daryl's indecision; she thought she had a chance at romance of a more permanent nature, and it seemed he did finally open his heart to it, after years of never fully going in that direction with anyone before. It was always hints or teases about what could have been, whether it was with Carol, Beth or Michonne.....

I do not see her returning after so long; Dog's greying muzzle hair--more than the on screen notices of how much time passed, would indicate she's been missing for a very long time.

    NOTES:
Another strong character episode; just three performers, and it was a compelling, satisfying hour.

Definitely interesting to see Daryl in a real romance after all this time, and in typical Daryl style, it's not really a conventional romance in any way. Don't have much more to say about this one, other than to echo that it was a very good and engaging character piece.

I loved that he was not responsible for naming Dog, and that he initially he had the same reaction to the name as most people would have.
