First character images from Prodigy released on Twitter

But not in cartoon form. I bet they give her a new Starfleet uniform that comes with things like a utility belt and looks more like something you would wear when hiking. No connection to other Starfleet uniforms except a tri corded and com badge. Jason

We know enough about Janeway to not want to take away from the new characters. So, we don't need to know more.

ETA: In other words, show us the new. Janeway is not new information.

What? Why?
Because why would she be on a derelict ship taken over by teenagers?

They also keep calling her Captain, not Admiral in the materials, so unless this is set between VOY and Nemesis, that makes no sense. So I think she's a hologram based on Janeway when she was captain of Voyager.

Or they could be calling her captain because people are more familiar to her as a captain.

I assume the reason behind Janeway being there will explained in the show. Truth be told would their ship even be powerful enough to sustain a hologram that long? (assuming the hologram is sentient a la The Doctor)

Or she is actually in command of the ship and called captain by tradition. Or she lost the ship stolen and is demoted because of the oversight.

I'm kind of disappointed because I thought that since it was for kids it would be about starfleet academy (which I really wanted to know the inner workings of), but at the same time i couldn't care less because at least it's on a network I actually have access to  I'll save my judgement for when I watch it.

Hm, A StarFleet academy show could be pretty interesting.... Showing off all the kinds of teachers and legends that passed down from each generation of cadets, could be a great way to do some worldbuliding.

I desperately want a Starfleet Academy show, but not animation. I was something akin to Buffy or Smallville, where a group of cadets are saving the universe between lessons and getting into all kinds of trouble. Basically the academy bit of the 2009 movie expanded to a series.

You may want to check out some of the many comics and novels (and the video game) set there, if you haven't already. Also the TNG episode The First Duty, DS9 episodes Homefront and Paradise Lost, Voyager episode In the Flesh and Star Trek 2009.

do we? I suspect that if they showed her we would have a better idea of the era this is set...
Allow me to rephrase for clarity. We have a general sense of what Janeway looks like and that's not the part they want us to talk about. So, they share one photo that will generate far more speculation than a picture of Janeway would, with the added bonus of speculation as to what Janeway might look like. Free advertising completed.
