Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

My 3D printed DSC Connie concept arrived

Excellent!
I'm always afraid a ship might turn out almost black when the hull material is dark but your model is a perfect match for the Eaglemoss version.

In the game, the straight-pyloned Donnie is called "Constitution Gamma". I wonder why they didn't just call it the Eaves-subclass, analog to the Jefferies-class (Phase II Connie).

I've ordered the mirror Donnie (with a brighter color as well). Looking forward how that turns out, though I'm hoping that receives an Eaglemoss treatment someday, too.

Trekzone's Matt Miller has an interview with Ben Robinson.

* Upcoming collection combines DSC, PIC and SNW. (That we know already. This time, LD is not mentioned).
* "There's lots of ships from Discovery, including the Discovery-A with its floating nacelles,"
* "We will be doing Strange New Worlds." We don't know much about it, know what everyone else knows. Pretty sure there'll be some ships in it.
* Build the Enterprise-D not coming to the Australian market.
* Lower Decks is interesting because of the paint. "We'd like it to look as if it's animated." But it's a matter of how, might just look like a regular ship. Need adding missing RCS thrusters and phaser strips.

So, I wonder what those of us who have subscriptions for DSC and all the XL's and Specials should do? Cancel the subs and start the new umbrella sub, running the risk of losing the opportunity to get things that have been skipped (of which there are Legion)? Start the new one, don't cancel the old one and risk getting expensive duplicates? This has me a bit concerned.

So they want to keep it accurate in one way but then deliberately change it by adding details that aren't there originally?:wtf:

That comment about the RCS thrusters ist very strange. That's such a minor detail that it got lost on so many Eaglemoss models - at least in the regular size. That's because many models are not very detailed at the saucer rim. Even in some XL models the RCS thrusters are missing or are unpainted (Defiant, Akira).

And on the other hand: Why should the RCS thrusters be a clearly visible feature on every ship? The Cerritos seems to be designed with unremarkable thrusters so why change that on the model? I am sure on most ships in Star Trek you couldn't point on a spot and claim without a doubt that it is a thruster.

To clarify, the ST Universe collection only includes new DSC ships, not anything already covered in the 33 issues + specials of the DSC collection.

Thank you for the clarification. I do have a currently active subscription account for the Discovery series of ships (plus all specials) and I’m missing the Workbee and the USS Zimmerman of that line. I’m curious if their systems would be smart enough to preserve the legacy purchasing information in the new account.

Ah HA! Just answered my own question. I finally took the leap to sign up for the "Star Trek Universe" subscription and there is, in fact, a check box that says "I am currently collecting Star Trek Discovery"! I will assume this means that they will keep the other sub preserved so it doesn't get cross-threaded with this new one. Oddly, there's also an "I have collected Star Trek Discovery in the past" option, which is strange to me, as that sub is still ongoing, as far as I know. Oh, well, at least there seems to be the appearance that they've taken subscribers like me into account. We shall see...

Are hopes fading for more ships from DS9 and TNG? I'm still hopeful for the Bajoran ship, the first iteration of the Jem'Hadar cruiser, the Ferengi shuttle, the Wadi ship, the Boslic ship, the John Knoll designed freighter from the credits and the Bonaventure and the warbird from the Chronology.

And the Emmett Till and the Defiant prototype!

Defiant prototype was mentioned in the previous interview with Ben as an example of an upcoming concept ship.
With regards to other "legacy ships" from TOS to ENT, who knows... But I'd love to keep getting them.

Since the main subscription series has ended with 180, the prospects do not look good for ship types that would have fit nicely in that line, sadly. I suppose there's a slim chance they may do some one-off specials/shop exclusives, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

That said, I do concur with Markonian, here, in that I would like to see ALL ships being done at some point. They're clearly focusing on the many new series that CBSAA/P+ are pumping out now, which is doubtless keeping them all quite busy.

The good thing about all that is that every single ship now is a ready-made CGI asset that CBS can just email to Eaglemoss for immediate prototyping and printing. No real extensive research necessary for any of these in the future, trying to track down blurry photos of long-destroyed 30+ year-old physical miniatures!

Indeed! No more having assets vanish into the ether like with the TNG and KEL movies.
