They could totally cheap out and just do a table read, and have someone read the scene directions. Basically then you don’t have to do anything except get people together to read it. Sounds about their speed.

So the literal millions on sound stages, sets, props, and uniforms will now produce (maybe...) an audio reading instead? :guffaw:

Yep they'll do a table read over the finished and unfinished VFX shots they have already. Remember they prioritize doing the shots first and then tried to write a script around them.

And of course it'll be beset with delays and ultimately turn out to be low-quality crap; but Alec and Co. We'll promote it as the best/truest Star Trek ever - and claim that with more donations, the audio play they do release (if they actually do ever get to that point) can be "remastered" and improved or expanded upon

Of course years ago they were going to do on machina version using Star Trek Online assets as a backdrop and that went nowhere because the developers did send them a cease and desist letter.

Even if they tried this, they could find that it's not as easy as it sounds. It takes considerable organizational effort and technical savvy to set something like that up. Those don't seem to be their strong points. Just convincing everyone involved to be available at one point in time, is no piece of cake.

They don't have to all be available at the same time. The could record the lines singles or small groups as available...with the quality hit that goes with it.

Then you have to convince an audio editor that it's worth his (unpaid?) time to sort it out. There aren't that many that are qualified and fewer of those who will work for free or anything less than something approaching a standard rate.

This is quite true. However, the word is out and the line of would be suckers is getting shorter and so is the amount of real talent they represent.

After roughly five years, I really don't care what format the sequel I'll never get will be using. Fortunately for me, I found out about it after the initial funding finished and the cracks were already obvious otherwise I'd likely be more less sarcastic and more vehement about the whole thing.

Each actor could record their part in their own bathroom. :shifty: ;)

It can be done. Done well by experienced actors using decent equipment in properly treated rooms and mixed by skilled editors the result can be virtually seamless. But...that's a lot of variables.

Alec would pf course insist everyone be in the same room at the same time as a tactic to stall and endlessly fundraise.

I saw a lot of references to people recording stuff in the closets back when everyone was first in lockdown.

Closets (provided they're full of clothes) can work surprisingly well. Of course, audio quality is always only as good as the weakest link...quality of mic, quality of placement, quality of environment, quality of mixer/pre-amp...etc.
