Yup. Some good comparison pics here; https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/purple-uniforms.192352/
I presume they wanted to foreshadow Federation Blue?

a good question for discovery’s producers as well...At least they eventually introduced what will presumably be the SNW ones, which are quite popular already (personally I loved the Star Trek 2009 ones even more...one of the few things I really liked from that mivie).TBH I could never understand why the producers would forego the instantly recognisable gold/blue/red shirts for the drab blue jumpsuits that proliferated on sci-fi shows like Babylon5;Seaquest and BSG.
In ENT's case they were going for a NASA/ISS feelTBH I could never understand why the producers would forego the instantly recognisable gold/blue/red shirts for the drab blue jumpsuits that proliferated on sci-fi shows like Babylon5;Seaquest and BSG.
Simple. They wanted it to be distinct. It flowed nicely from Enterprise to Kelvin to Discovery too.TBH I could never understand why the producers would forego the instantly recognisable gold/blue/red shirts for the drab blue jumpsuits that proliferated on sci-fi shows like Babylon5;Seaquest and BSG.
Well, they *did* step on other designs with the LDS ones, specifically as now there are two communicator designs in service in 2380. But it’s totally fine: we’ve seen different uniform designs in use at the same time (very notably in discovery season 2), no reason they couldn’t do the same with the communicators. There were also the Picard and LDS uniforms that they needed to build recently as well, that didn’t step on other designs
very true. But yes, it was an odd choice, marketing-wise. My guess is that they steered away from the colored uniforms to avoid people thinking the new series was connected with the Kelvin movies.Simple. They wanted it to be distinct. It flowed nicely from Enterprise to Kelvin to Discovery too.
I don't see it as odd. It was billed as before Kirk and Spock.very true. But yes, it was an odd choice, marketing-wise. My guess is that they steered away from the colored uniforms to avoid people thinking the new series was connected with the Kelvin movies.
Oh, this was on Final Jeopardy last night...And Kirk and Spock wore...
What are jumpers and slacks, Alex?Oh, this was on Final Jeopardy last night...
Why does it matter if it was set before? And Kirk and Spock wore...
Velour.And Kirk and Spock wore...
*doesn’t hate itMaybe they should just go the STO route and let everyone wear any kind of uniform from any time period they want. Even better, any kind of uniform from any military organization and any species at any time of history, real or fictional, like Keyla going full Napoleonic or Tilly trying to feel more powerful by donning a TNG era Klingon uniform.
Wouldn't be chaotic at all.
