Someone put together a single YouTube vid of all of Hank Aaron's appearances on Letterman over the years. 35 minutes, but worth the time — Aaron was a great guest, and Letterman in his prime was really the best.

Look at Hank's numbers. No one had stats like his. The most amazing stat of all - if you subtract his 755 homers, he still had over 3000 hits.

The Cubs are discussing a deal that would send Javy Baez and Kris Bryant to the Blue Jays for prospects. This comes after a Sun Times report that said Jon Lester gave the Cubs multiple opportunities to re-sign him and that he'd sign for as low as $5 million, but the business side of the team told Hoyer he couldn't make an offer north of $2 million.

If that trade happens, that's it, I'm never giving the Cubs another cent. They aren't even bothering to cover up the tank.

Bryant I could kinda see, though the way he's played the last few years I'm not sure he's worth much. Javy, no effin' way, a deal breaker for me along with Contreras.

Lester seems pretty much washed up at this point, so I'm OK with letting him walk,

Bryant's issue is that he hurt his shoulder in 2017 and he very badly needs to get surgery on it. I remember reading in The Athletic last year that he's spent the last few seasons playing with a frayed rotator cuff.

Baez is another story, though. That allergy to walks is going to catch up to him and then his offensive value craters. His plate discipline gets worse every season.

As for Lester, $5 million for a #5 starter to eat innings is hardly the worst expenditure in team history. He also very badly wanted to get his 200th win at Wrigley Field, and made it clear to Cubs management ... but I guess they just wanted him out, like a one-night fling. "Wait, you're still here? Sure, last night was great, but ... you're still here? You expecting breakfast or something?"

Can't disagree with anything there. Considering that massive swing Bryant has, not surprising he'd keep wearing the shoulder out.

For all his flaws, Baez is exciting and brings fans "to the ballpark", but I wish he'd figure out that hitting the ball 3 times as hard doesn't get him 3 times the RBI, and that no matter what, he isn't hitting it to Evanston.

That's fucking insane on every level. I'm guessing the club wouldn't let him get it because they would lose him for "too long"?

IDK about that. They've put plenty of their other top players on the DL IL.

The Blue Jays are really afraid of Vladdy playing third base consistently, even after he dropped forty pounds. It's kind of infuriating when what they need is starting pitching (though apparently they are talking to Tanaka).

Could MLB handle the full time DH any worse? both sides want it but the owners want the players to give something up.

Going to kill the game with this nonsense.

Much like the NFL, the game somehow survives the non-sense.

MLB offseason spending, by division, to date:

    AL East: $307M
    NL East: $143M
    AL Central: $124M

    NL West: $98M
    AL West: $83M
    NL Central: $3.7M

Seven teams (STL, PIT, ARI, COL, BAL, CLE) with either zero signings or only new minor league deals.

Pathetic. Get ready for the mother of all labor wars in about ten months, my friends.

After the first missed paycheck, I imagine the players will fold like a pop-up tent in a hurricane. Much like every other instance in life, the haves don't give a shit about the have nots.

Joc Pederson to the Cubs on a one year deal?!?! For $1M less than Schwarber would've cost them, with a no-doubt upgrade in defense. Still not sure what to think about this.

Also, the Cubs are rumored to be interested in Jake Arrieta. IDK what Jake has left in the tank as opposed to Lester, who as far as I'm concerned is burnt out. Maybe Arrieta as closer if Jeffress doesn't come back?

Has there been even the slightest hint of a peep about what form the 2021 season is going to take? How many games, will there be fans, etc.

It's probably too early to tell, what with the U.S. vaccination effort lagging and these new COVID mutations showing up. I wouldn't count on fans being allowed in, not until we've got higher vaccination rates.

Spring training cities asked MLB to delay the start of spring training. Not sure if they decided on anything.

I've wished for a shorter regular season for years, if only so they'd play the WS in mid-October and maybe not start the season in the snow in as many cities. Chicagoland has had much later springs since 2002, not sure what it's like anywhere else in that regard.

This is exactly not the time to even think about doing a baseball season, when we're so close to actually getting somewhere with COVID despite the previous administration's shit show on every level, despite a large portion of the population refusing to believe science and respect, despite the issues with vaccination distribution. Starting up a massive sport such as baseball just when the corner could be turned is an even worse idea than last year.

    But, I know. Fucking money.

    Fuck money.
