First New Trek Released From Now (January 2021)..?

With quite a few series being in (pre-)production, can anyone guess as to when we'll see new Trek..??
My personal guess is probably Prodigy first, and then hopefully later in the year the second season of LDS and the fourth season of DSC, even though those could also be lifted to early 2022. In any case, I'm guessing SNW and PIC S2 won't be aired until 2022, so that year will probably be FILLED with new Trek...

And does anyone know when the next big convention will take place, where we could see new trailers for upcoming series..??

Definately feeling Trek-withdrawal after 23 weeks of awesomeness! Need new Trek-stuff..!

I was just discussing this with a friend yesterday (and hoping that maybe there would have been some kind of announcement about whatever was coming next to coincide with the finale of Discovery). I would guess that one or both of the animated shows will be next, but who knows where they are at with production on those?

As far as the live action shows, I'd guess probably Discovery season 4, since they went back into production on that show in November. But I can't imagine that would be ready until the end of 2021 at the earliest.

Per Jeri Ryan, production on Picard season 2 isn't supposed to start until February, and who knows if that date will stick, given the covid situation in LA. Strange New Worlds is also not supposed to start filming until February. So I think the likeliest options for the next new Trek we get would be Prodigy or Lower Decks season 2.

We're definitely getting season 2 of Lower Decks this year. Before Christmas they had begun production of episode 9 and the first four were close to 100% complete. I have no idea how far along progress is with Prodigy, but it would not surprise me if we got that this year as well.

Otherwise that will be it. Disco season 4 is currently filming and has been since November, but the earliest I expect that to air is January 2022. Can't comment on Picard or SNW until they actually do begin filming.

No idea where Prodigy stands production wise, so it's a wild card.
My guess we'll get Lower Decks season 2 this year and maybe Disco season 4 towards the very end of 2021.
And if we are really lucky, a Short Trek or two.

They're not filming at Short Treks at the moment as far as we know. Kurtzman was asked sometime last year and there were currently no plans.

Just curious: why do you reckon Discovery's fourth season won't arrive until at least next January? Is there any particular reason? I would have figured it's a rather nebulous "sometime between, like, November 2021 and February 2022" window.

It only began filming in November 2020, filming in general of all TV shows at the moment is taking longer than usual to film because of all the various pandemic precautions that are in place, and CBSAA typically reserves January as premiere month for Star Trek. Obviously that's not happening this year, but January 2018 saw the mid-season premiere for the second half of Disco season 1, January 2019 the premiere of season 2 of Disco, January 2020 the premiere of Picard. While I suppose it is theoretically possible Disco season 4 could be ready to air November or December 2021, I suspect they may just sit on it until January to get their January premiere tradition going again, not to mention they can lessen the gap between it and season 1 of SNW or season 2 of Picard, whichever of those comes first.

Now that the third season of Discovery has finished, what will come out next, a new season of Picard, Discovery, Lower Decks, or something else? I think due to Covid slowing down live-action productions, the next thing we may see will be animated, either another season of Lower Decks or the Nickelodeon cartoon.

Edit: Sorry mods, I screwed up the title of this thread, can I have it changed?

Makes sense, thanks!

I think they should air them more along the lines of what Disney+ is doing with the MCU shows - maybe a month off between shows. And if we get mostly vaccinated by the end of the third quarter/beginning fourth quarter this year, entertainment production should hopefully get ramped back up.

Prodigy: June to August 2021
Lower Decks: October to December 2021
Discovery: February to April 2022
Picard: June to August 2022
Strange New Worlds: October to December 2022
Section 31: February to April 2023

That being said, if they wanted to quickly create some more Short Treks to fill-in the gaps, that would be great

Lower Decks S1 will be "new" if you're not American or Canadian.

Has anything been said of how Prodigy will be released internationally? You'd think that airing it on other Nickelodeon stations worldwide would be a given but not every country has Nickelodeon and they might feel there's more money to be had by selling it to Amazon/Netflix etc.

I'm not expecting any more live action Trek this year. We might get Disco S4 at the end of the year but I wouldn't be surprised if they intend to start that up in January 2022. Between that, Picard S2 and SNW S1 that'll be quite a lot for one year, probably the most live action trek in a year since the DS9/TNG/VOY days.

From what I have read online, it took six weeks to film two episodes of DIS S4. They were delayed with completing these episodes, filming wise, as their version of Volume was not up and running. It was expected that this new thing would be operational in early January. If I take three weeks as the average for filming an episode, and if there were roughly the same number of episodes as the last season, they won't be finished with filming until the end of summer. Then, there is the months of post-production. So, I think 2022 is a sure bet.

As for Picard, LA is a catastrophe. A recent estimate put the number of people who might have been infected between 3 and 4 million, or 1/3 of the population. They are fighting the Thanksgiving Surge. The Christmas Surge has yet to show its face. As long as this pandemic rages in the area, it will continue to delay filming.

There is a site showing what is being produced in Toronto. Unless DIS is under an under name, it is not shown as being in production. Strange New World is shown to go into production from February 18 to July 23.

So, for 2021, I predict:
Star Trek: Prodigy (I hope there will be more than one way to view this in the US.)
Star Trek: Lower Decks S2

For 2022, I predict:
Star Trek: Strange New World S1
Star Trek: Discovery S4

2022 or 2023, depending on how quickly they can get the pandemic under control in LA:
Star Trek: Picard S2

Ontario is on a stay at home order by the provincial government, so it will be hard to film for Discovery till the order is lifted:

I think its going to be just animation this year for Star Trek, Lower Decks can still go ahead with production.

Discovery resumes filming on Monday. It is now known as Mill Street.
