MemoryAlpha editor refuses to change Adira's Gender to "Non-Binary"

Something similar happened back in 2016 with Kelvin Sulu being gay, I believe it took a few months before they added it just because “it wasn’t clear” what their relationship was.

Ahh so this Archduk3 fellow has a history of this. Also "whip up a mob"? "storm the capital"?? So rather just admit they(I don't know Archduk3's pronouns)were wrong with adding the "physical gender" section to the sidebar They rather act as if they're being attacked then just make a very simple change, utter nonsense

He was calling this cancel culture on Twitter earlier.

Anthony Rapp got in on it and sent a DM to the main memory alpha Twitter account over it, no response yet from what I can tell.
This looks like a warp core breach in progress to put it bluntly.

I agree that it's possible that there's transphobia going on. But someone has to be very, very careful and have clear cut evidence to make that accusation. At worst it can backfire and you find yourself on the wrong end of a defamation claim.

I just don't know what else to say. I miss the Okudas' Star Trek Encyclopedia/Omnipedia now.

I doubt very many of the site-monkeys get paid, which means there are very few employment contracts that would protect an editor/moderator from being a bigot.

The bigot might have an ownership stake or be in a relationship with someone who has an owner ship stake, and by relationship, a 30 year long platonic friendship counts.

I remember once the admins of a site I used to frequent, tried to push out the tech guy, who upon feeling that push, zeroed out the sites bank accounts and changed all the pass words.

For the record, "Archduk3" was one of the people who rejected to my request that the photograph of the Orion woman played by Bobbi Sue Luther in ENT Season 3 not be placed in the "Orion" article's infobox because it's misogynistic and sexually-objectifying to have that be literally the first image you see of Orion women -- especially since there are non-objectified Orion women characters who have appeared since. I found his posts to be misogynistic. He also throws temper tantrums and hurls insults at people who don't adhere to pointless MA policy minutiae. He's an asshole.

Yikes... They really changed it back to old picture instead of using Tendi or something else? How is this guy still a mod after all this?, Unless this common behavior or MA mods.

Yeah, it's ridiculous -- especially since the two most prominent Orion characters now are Tendi and Osyraa, neither of whom are depicted in sexually objectifying terms. I have no idea how this guy is a mod with his attitude problem; the MA power structure is very opaque to me. I do know that I had to threaten to report him for abuse over his ridiculous behavior when I tried to have the article "United Earth Council" re-titled (since the canon has never once established the existence of a "United Earth Council").

This is the problem with a lot of wikis. They're essentially a free-for-all, so once someone gets a bug up their arse about something, and unless you have some VERY dedicated, patient and even minded admins, it's going to come down to who's the most stubborn and obstinate. Worse still if you have one or more admins that treats the wiki like their own little fiefdom, then it can turn really malignant.

I was part of Memory Alpha at the very beginning (hell, I designed the damn logo!) but I very quickly lost interest in the petty back and forth squabbles over the most inane minutia, and barely looked back since.

All that said, this kind of bigoted nonsense is especially infuriating coming from the Trek fandom. Supposedly the vanguard of diverse and inclusive popular sci-fi for the last half century. It's not surprising (I have after all been paying attention). But it's still infuriating.

Admins don't get paid. They're all volunteers. I'm still an admin from Aught-Six, but I don't actively edit the site anymore. Archduk3 was not around back then, and Memory Alpha and Fandom/Wikia/Wikicities has changed ownership several times from 2003 to today.

I like Fandom's Wikis generally, especially in contrast to Wikipedia (which has shown itself to be very hypocritical regarding how factual it purports to be versus how factual it actually is), so this is especially disappointing.

Kudos to Anthony and Wilson for getting involved in defense of the facts, though.

I woke up to a Twitter DM from TrekMovie, thinking I was a M-A mod for some reason, asking for an interview over this.

All I did was post a screen cap of what Archduk3 was saying on my talk page and it just dominoed from there lol
