Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

One of my disappointments in DISCO leaving the 23rd Century is we will never see Alan Tudyk as Stamets' brother, who is an even a bigger ass than Stamets. ;)

Has anyone noticed that are are very few Orion males in the company of Osyra?

I wonder why that is? Why does she have more Andorian males in her company?

Know what type of plant you get when you cross an Osyra with an Andorian?

An egg plant.

Perhaps they're like the black widows, they kill the males when they're no longer able to reproduce...

Off-Topic but CBS All Access related: I only watched the first episode of the new Twilight Zone when it first came out. I decided to kill some time by watching the rest of the episodes. It's going to be a sloooooowwwww day, so I figured why not?

Then I noticed on the CBS All Access page, they have the option to watch those episodes in black-and-white! That just made my day. The Twilight Zone just doesn't feel right when it's in color.

I don't know. When color TVs came up people were willing to pay good money to have them... So my guess is this will get old pretty quick.

The show is offered in both color versions and black-and-white versions.

I just chose to watch it in black-and-white.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
Certain things work better in black-and-white. The atmospherics, the moodiness, and eeriness work better that way.

And being born in 1979, I don't think I have the same perspective about B&W that either you or Discofan have. To you it's nostalgia. Because you actually remember when B&W TV was common. I don't. To me, it's more of an artform. We don't have the same perspective because we can't.

I'm not one to get outraged when old black-and-white films are colorized (as long as the originals exist) and I enjoy watching them as it makes those times feel more "real" to me. But The Twilight Zone is a case where I prefer the black-and-white because it adds to how surreal it is. It shouldn't feel "real". It should feel like a nightmare. And somehow black-and-white makes it seem more scary. I like not being able to tell if something is blood or not. I like the darkness and the different shades of gray add textures. And the lack of color allows me to proverbially color it in with my own imagination.

I've also done black-and-white photography and videography. Sometimes it's just the type of feel you're going for.

Anyway, I've watched three episodes now. Out of order. It's pretty good. It's not the same as the original version, but I like it well enough in its own right. It feels creepy, tense, and had me in suspense in a few spots. And some of it turns things just plain upside down. It feels like what I always imagined in my head The Twilight Zone should feel like.

The writer of TNG’s “The Big Goodbye” wanted the Holodec scenes of that episode to be in black and white but got overruled. They used that idea later in VOY’s captain proton Holodec scenes.

Picard was also supposed to be the most expensive Star Trek show ever made.

I have a feeling compensation for Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan, Avika Goldsman and Michael Chanbon ate a lot of that budget. Re-using CG from Discovery was pretty lame.
Perhaps. Even though I loved the show, the use of Shutterstock footage in the vision of the Admonition was bizarre.......
