Honestly, I’m for only having an aft torpedo emplacement. I mean, if you’re a little science vessel, and you’re in a situation where you need to be firing torpedoes, ideally you would want to be running away!

It is up to you. But I do think it fits the science vessel concept if the only torps are defensive aft launchers (if being chased) and a few forward phasers for utility sake and clearing asteroids and such.
No need for a full arsenal if it is not going to be in a combat situation. And while aft torps would help, they wouldn't carry very many.

It may not have been called Reliant, but Grissom was a K car compared to Enterprise’s LTD/Crown Vic’

I was thinking more Ford Pinto, with a one-and-done, but point taken. :)

I imported your 3d model of the ship into Minecraft at 335m length and then detailed it :). I also made a few changes to the ship such as a rear shuttlebay and an in-saucer deflector dish.

    What do you think?

I made a post about the build on PlanetMinecraft: https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/star-trek-uss-tyson/

And linked back here of course!

That is awesome! I had thought about doing a deflector like that, but I got too lazy to add it. I love it.

I like it so much in fact, I might modify my VFX model to match yours.

To refit the Tyson into the Minecraft version by JackSP, I have completed a new deflector dish. Look good? Look bad? What say you? Also added the registry number to the nacelle as he has on his.

I like it. The cutout in front makes the ship look more "finished" than it did with just a plain saucer, more like a complete unit rather than a separated saucer section. The NX-02/Binary Stars shape is era-appropariate, while the blue glowing cutouts is very Kelvinverse, doing that thing where the '60s-style copper dish is "hidden" by the lights when it's turned on.

Woah it's looking great I love it! :D May I ask what your opinion is on the rear Nx-style shuttlebay I added?

Upgrades to the Tyson design complete. Biggest is a new saucer-mounted deflector dish. Other small changes include adding registry numbers to the nacelles, a name plate on the back, a forward torpedo launcher on the saucer underside, and docking ports on the saucer edge.

It more or less now matches JackSP's Minecraft version of the design.
