Would that really be a writing decision?

Probably. It could've been tacked on by the director or producers (in concert with the art department), but I have a hard time believing the writer's staff wouldn't be involved. The writer (Mike Sussman) wrote the credits for the Enterprise mirror episodes. The two previously attempted credits changes, in TNG and DS9, were prepared by the episode writers.

But, then, the writers may have been a little more creative, and these Mirror Titles look to be a last minute decision.

They'll just go off and put her in an actual TOS (TV circa 1966) looking 23rd century - and cement the idea that ST: D; STP, SNW actually do take place in a slightly 'alternate' Universe. Either way, I'm happy "Section 31 is a go -- and happy to see Michelle Yeoh headlining her own Star Trek series. BIG WIN!

Not to be antagonistic, but why would this be necessary? DSC and everything else except 3 movies takes place in the prime universe. I don’t get why fans are so anxious to split the franchise 1000 ways. Is it really because DSC doesn’t look like it was made the 1960s?

It’s because every Trek series except for Voyager established that the period of time Discovery comes from looked a certain way. Discovery decided to go a different way.

I look at Disco and Picard...at least visually as being from one of those Parallel universes that Worf was trapped rotating thru in TNG S7. Basically Disco and Picard are mirror universes all their own.

but YMMV.

Boring answer: I go with three timelines.

Classic Timeline: The mid-23rd Century looks like TOS.
Prime Timeline: The mid-23rd Century looks like early-DSC and SNW.
Kelvin Timeline: The Abrams Films.

Most of Star Trek can take place in the Classic or Prime Timeline with no difference.

Most people who go with the Three Timeline Theory say that First Contact is the dividing point between what I'd call "Classic" and "Prime". They say the Enterprise-E going back to 2063 is what later caused ENT to happen, then DSC and PIC. But I don't do that. ENT's "In the Mirror, Darkly" messes that up by showing a TOS-style Defiant. As well as "These Are the Voyages", which briefly shows Kirk's Enterprise in TOS-style. I just go with a neat, simple: those two timelines looked the way they always looked from the beginning. There's no dividing point.

All of this is nice I guess but canonically everything but the 3 Kelvin movies are in the Prime Universe. Any reasons for for this are external to the universe, i.e., Trek has a budget now. It seems like having a million different fanon universe theories will just cleave the fan base more than it already is.

I mean, it's pretty well cloven.

I wish I could give this post more than one like.

Well played Sir.:guffaw:

And for you youngins who weren't around to see TAS first run (I was 10 years old). That's a screen cap from an episode entitled:

"The Magicks of Megus Tu"

And the Saytar there was voiced by James Doohan.

I'm starting to not like the mirror universe anymore because it's a ludicrous place that makes no logical sense the more time we spend there. Discovery has chosen to portray it as populated with people who just betray and murder one another left and right. There's almost no rhyme or reason to it; they just do it because it's how things are done there.

So exactly how it was portrayed in TOS and ENT...got it.

Why did it suddenly appear now just cause Burnham stood in a spot?

Probably because he does that for anyone who comes into his immediate vicinity... and Discovery with the Sphere Data (along with the past and current Federation database) extrapolated his coordinates.
Plus, Carl/GoF knows people very intimately who come to him (a combination of advanced sensors and temporal technology), so he probably chose to appear to Georgiou and M.B because he knew they weren't trying to use him to alter history like people during the Temporal Wars did... but Phillipa still needed to be tested.

The badge throwing scene was so dumb it was like a scene from a 00s comedy taking the p1ss out of the Matrix

Its the M.U., they do silly things.

Also why did the door have to dramatically explode into tiny pieces. Someone needs to cut this shows budget or hire someone who isnt trying to be Michael Bay to use it

Better effects than what they had back in the 60-ies.
Perhaps Carl developed a sense of humor and flair for the dramatic over the past 930 years?
Camouflage (most likely because others tried using him during the Temporal Wars and so he was intentionally ambiguous).
