It's an animated comedy series. I don't know where you live, right now it's only in Canada and the USA.

Well so far we haven't had any evidence that it has.

I don't think there is any evidence that it has.

Honestly, it was pretty consistent with what was presented in TNG/DS9. There was a bias against something, a ban against different tech. The synth ban was just like the augment ban. It came from a place of fear of something bad happening again.

Humans, throughout Trek, have been shown, time and again, to be susceptible to fear and irrational thinking. The Federation went through a long period of suffering and became more protective of itself and its members, after the Borg attack, the Cardassian War, the Dominion War, and a Romulan threat, not to mention the intense paranoia felt at some levels due to the Changeling threat.

Then we have Voyager where holograms don't have rights and are used for labor. Synths are just an outcome of that.

As much as I appreciate people not liking Picard I don't see the Federation as being substantially different in policy or modes of operation than past shows.

Unless I see Picard wearing a Covid Mask, it's not like Today.

Even 2019 is not like Today. Hopefully one year from now isn't like Today either. 2020 is one of a kind.

And, for the record, it's delightful. It's basically a screwball comedy set around the time of TNG, that's positively loaded with Trekkie in-jokes and easter eggs. Strongly recommended.

Still wondering why the clothes don't make sense but then again I'm not sure I'll learn anything important if we're told.

Ah, I live in Europe and we are always in the backwater.

But I try to find out what I can about it.
