Wasn't the reason the GoF hasn't been reused to date because Harlan Ellison (and now his Estate) wouldn't grant the rights? If so, this is kind of a slick way to incorporate it.

I agree. I think one of the big things I have taken from the MU episodes is that there is a constant tension. A hostile work environment that still has a larger goal for them to focus on. Georgiou may take that pragmatic side, and direct their efforts outside of their smaller schisms. Honestly, this was how the MU was portrayed in the comics at times-yes, there was a constant tension between ship mates, but Mirror Kirk was able to direct that against the Prime Universe, seeking to conquer the other. That's the essence of the Terran Empire-we'll kill each other unless there is something else out there to kill.

More like Rome it seems to me. Been studying Julius Caesar and the plots that fomented around him, as well as the honor codes running through the culture. Maybe I'm reading too much in to it but that's what it appears to be in the Terran Empire.

One wonders why it wasn't done earlier. Not sure you can copyright the widespread concept of a magical time portal.

Perhaps I missed it, but when was there talk of honor killing?

Whoever Cronenberg is, his threat/mystery level seems to have been massively undermined this episode. He seemed so mysterious and shady, and the idea that he was just an aging Mirror universe fanboy seemed some kind of cover.

Now with the revelation that he's not actually responsible for Mirror Georgiou's condition, it seems he really was no more than what he presented himself to be--just an aging Mirror universe fanboy.

The Guardian was of course reused in Yesteryear. Indeed, there was a proposal for a story for the first film that included the Guardian, but it was rejected by Roddenberry himself, perhaps out of spite.

Anyone else get a slightly shady vibe from Saru when he dismissed everyone from his ready room after viewing the distress call? Is he scared the Kelpians caused the Burn? Does he have an idea he doesn't want to share yet? Something just seemed a bit off to me there.

Georgiou said something about the honor of being killed by Michael (or her counterpart).

Speaking of which I wonder what will happen to MU Saru in this reality. He was eaten in the other if memory serves.

Calling that honor killing is a real stretch. It seems more like art of speech on Georgiou's part.

That paraphrases Julius Caesar's quote: "I'd rather be first in this village than second in Rome." also "Aut Caesar, aut nihil" "either caesar or nothing."

HOMER: Hey, when do we get the check for this?

MARGE: Well, they said they changed it just enough, so they don't have to pay us.

HOMER: Oh, you know who the real crooks are: those sleazy Hollywood producers!

If I am not mistaken in the Beta canon the Terran Empire is the result of a Western Roman Empire that never fell.

I mean since when do the Terrans care about the way they die?

Nice to see the Guardian of Forever again. Also it really does seem like Georgiou is a True Believer after all. Maybe hearing that the Empire fell really rattled her.

    Ugh I hate time travel.

So Georgiou went back in time to before Michael and Lorca rebelled against her. Doubtless the next episode will involve them tracking him down. If they do what I think they will, Lorca will not jump universes and end up in the prime timeline. Which means that the prime timeline and events will be altered, Discovery will probably have regular Lorca, and will not jump to the mirror universe. Or Georgiou will be the one sent back in Lorca's place, and essentially you'll get her pretending to be the prime version and alter what we know happens. Time travel paradoxes give me a headache.

I did think the honor talk was a bit Klingon, but at this point I can’t object to some worldbuilding to suggest how the MU manages to function.

Not sure why there was a question about whether to help Georgiou OR join the fleet against the Emerald Chain. I think they could have done both. Discovery could have spore jumped to the planet, dropped Michael and Georgiou off, and then spore jumped back to Starfleet. Or Michael and Georgiou could have taken Book's ship to go to the planet and Discovery could have stayed with the fleet.

Harlan Ellison was a prick. He made them add his name in the credits of Terminator even though he had nothing to do with the movie, simply because the director (I forget his name) mentioned him (in passing) as an inspiration...
