Carl, Karl, or Qarl could just as easily just be yet another Q for all this episode establishes about him. He just doesn't bother with the theatrics of the light flashes and fshhh sound effects.

Interesting episode. My guess is that the next one will be the last one for Yeoh this season. She was in 8 episodes each in Seasons 1 and 2 and this was her seventh of Season 3.

The frequent mentions of the Emerald Chain training exercises make me think that when Discovery returns to the fleet they'll encounter the aftermath of a large attack on Starfleet that they'll have to deal with before they can investigate the Nebula.

I am not in agreement with RMB. I read his twitter account when I first heard he had a bombshell about this two-parter. I saw nothing in his feed that convinced me of what he was saying.

They went to the trouble of establishing the door was inert, like the Guardian, so I won’t be surprised if there’s an additional reveal ahead. But the setting was certainly different from what we saw in TOS, so maybe there’s more (or nothing) to it.

It could be the Guardian though. Carl was reading The Star Dispatch which was the same newspaper that announced the death of Edith Keeler in City on the Edge of Forever.

So I friggin loved this episode! Seeing Detective Brass (CSI: Las Vegas in case you don't know who I'm speaking about.) as the doorway guy was pretty cool! Also, RMB is full of shit, because nothing that he mentioned actually came true, so he can piss off for all I care! Not going into detailed spoilers but I gotta say, if we don't see a certain main Season 1 character by next episode, I'll be a TAD disappointed... I'm giving this one an 8, although I should give it a 9 if I were more sober.

Not a fan of the episode. Not because of any of the nonsense Burnett complained about, but just because returning to the MU felt like an unwelcome step back, especially over multiple episodes, which feels wasteful in a (slightly) shorter season. I'd rather they just had a brief glimpse back into the MU to reflect on Georgiou's feelings towards Burnham if they felt it was necessary, but I don't think it was.

Ohhh....snap! So is that what RMB was livid about even though Harlan Ellison was ALREADY livid with the re-writes that his original script for City on the Edge of Forever? That Detective Brass is THE Guardian? OH WELL!!! He DID say to read the papers, so maybe we should pay attention to what he says this episode and see any possible relevance, we might catch some things.

It also references the USS Jenolen going missing, and a supernova threatening the T'Kon Empire.

Agony Boothby, er Boothb, beat me to it.
