I've tried to google this but cannot seem to pin it down.

I cannot seem to guess the timeline but back when the Science Fiction Channel was still called the Science Fiction channel they had a star trek marathon. (Shocking I know hah)

But what I thought was uniquely awesome about it was they had >EPISODE SPECIFIC< guest start interviews interspersed through the whole thing.

So instead of the many pat and "generalized" interviews about star trek, we often get this run had interviews that were usually from stars in that episode talking about that episode.

Try as I might I've been unable to even name this thing, much less try in vain to find a copy of it somewhere.

Does anyone know what I'm referring to? Also, does it still exist somewhere that we can access/buy?

    Thanks in advance.

This YouTube channel has tons of them posted. I don't think he ever got around to posting all of them.

They were immensely interesting as I remember and we got to see numerous guest actors having their say too!

It wasn't a marathon. The sci-fi channel was showing Star Trek episodes in regular time slots completely uncut with (at the time) current interviews of various cast members. As a result the run time for each uncut episode with all this added was 1 hour and 30 minutes.

They ran through the entire series (at the time) of 78 TOS episodes twice. The first time with William Shatner introducing every episode; and the second time with Leonard Nimoy introducing every episode.

Thanks for that link. Some lovely tidbits in there. I love finding hidden interviews with the actors. It adds to the store of dialogue I have for potential vocoder use!

Did they finish the run with Shatner hosting? Nimoy was first.

I don't recall as this was back in 1997 - 1998. And are you sure they started the first run with Nimoy, as I could have sworn they did the first run-through with Shatner; and then with the second run had Nimoy as the introducer.

Yep. These interviews never made it to DVD, presumably having been recorded by Sci-Fi for these reruns, who are owned by Universal.

Although having said that, the handful of Picture-in-Picture Commentaries on the Blu-ray sets, did take some footage from them. I think so any way. Interspersed with the likes of Rossi or the Okudas discussing the updated FX, older snippets of George Takei, Grace Lee Whitney, D.C. Fontana, or another contributor to TOS would pop up in the corner, with a Starbase 11 backdrop behind them. Something matching footage mounted for those late 90's showings anyway.

I recall they ran the Shatner Special Edition first. And they started airing the Nimoy run but did not finish it. Ratings fell off (or possibly the Sci-Fi Channel began its very unsentimental transition away from vintage programming), so most of the Nimoy version was never seen.

I think one issue is that they're format-locked in SD, not HD, because they were shot on tape. Another issue is that nobody at SyFy or CBS gives a crap.

The always reliable IMDb says, "The first run through the Special Edition was hosted by William Shatner. Leonard Nimoy took over as host for the second run, but the Special Edition was taken off the air in the middle of this run."

So I guess my brain is playing tricks on me. :)

Since he posted this and never came back, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
