Good to see Vance on Discovery and the return of Kovich. Also what is that TNG season uniform all about!

Kinda surprising that the trailer seems to only deal with Georgiou's illness. I mean, we all expected based upon the writers it was going to be about Georgiou (and the spinoff to the Section 31 show) but this seems like thin gruel to set up a two-parter.

It's time soldier Yor from alternate 2379 (where they kept these uniforms much longer, apparently). It's a timeline created by a Romulan mining vessel, so it could actually be the Kelvin universe!
Geogiou's problem is that matter from a different time and universe isn't stable... which means Prime Spock and Nero would've had some issues too, but perhaps they'll explain why they were unaffected.

Who knows - maybe that’s what ended up killing Spock? Could be that the degree of degradation from moving in time and realities is magnified by the spacetime distance between the two points of travel. In the case of Spock, who only went back ~130 years, he might not have gone far enough to start having issues right away, explaining why he lasted a few years in the Kelvin timeline.

Whoa- Kelvin timeline referenced for the first time in the prime timeline. S31 Guy seems to know all about it. Probably knows what happened to Spock as well.

I too noticed the weird lighting.

I'm putting this in tags since the information about Yor is not given in the original clip linked in this thread, but wow! That's some serious spoilers compared to what we usually get from the show. That's got to refer to the Kelvin timeline. The question now is whether it's a sly reference or the beginning of a more substantial connection!

Well, that clip is basically the lay-up for the entire two-parter. Georgiou will die unless she goes back in time (or back to the MU). The Guardian of Forever will most likely (as rumored) be involved, allowing her to go back to the "right time" (23rd century again?). Georgiou exits the series, and is teed up for Section 31.

I do not expect much from the two parter, TBH, because it's a story which is contrived to reach a certain predetermined conclusion. It will be interesting to see Discovery's take on Assignment: Earth however.

In general, I think it's hard to get a decent episode out of something that the writers feel like they "need to do." IMHO that's why The Red Angel/Perpetual Infinity were so bad last season. Spending all of your time explaining does not make for good drama.
That might be closer to it, though in this instance I think the "need to do" is say "We're really Star Trek! Promise!" with the whole time travel and TNG uniform is quite fatiguing.

I don't see how that's what they're doing here.

The uniform is short hand for showing time travel, since it's from a different time.
