IIRC, the montrals are actually hollow and act as echo chambers/amplifiers for their ears, which as one might note, are entirely enclosed. The lekku on the other hand are more or less solid (if spongy) tissue.
So they're not really "horns" at all in the usual sense.
You only need be familiar with the movies to understand where the planet Ajan Kloss is from...

So I'm usually not the type of person to immediately rewatch TV episodes after their airing.
I've now rewatched this six times in three days and it just keeps getting better.

Rise of Skywalker is a movie. (I don't recall if the name Ajan Kloss is spoken in the movie, which I've seen only once)

Actually there are limits to hyperdrives.
If your on a major hyperspace route with no celestial objects blocking your path it is extremely quick.
If you go off the routes or on a poorly mapped route it's a lot slower.
You have situations where yes you can travel tens of thousands if light years in a few hours but it can take weeks,months or even years to travel to a system only a few light years away if not on a routes.
That's why the unknown regions, where thrown and Ezra ended up are unknown. There are no major hyper routes there so travel us extremely slow and dangrous.
Yeah it was fairly clearly established that the purrgil follow their own routes, so if they jumped a ship to a part of the galaxy that was way off the charts, the navi-computer wouldn't be able to plot a course back.
You know I'm not 100% sure that the name of the planet was even mentioned in dialogue. But then Tatooine wasn't named in dialogue either until the end of tESB...and even then just going purely from the dialogue it wouldn't have been clear that it referred to the planet from the first movie. Even so, most young fans at the time probably knew exactly what it meant because it was all over the ancillary material...like Ajan Kloss...and probably Ahch-to now that I think about it.
Not a fan of Rebels or what they did with Ezra or Thrawn but you can't just come back from the Unknown Regions. Even Thrawn, a Chiss, is porked outside of Ascendancy Space. You can zip around the known galaxy because the routes are charted. But out there, they don't know what rogue planets or cold stars are in the way of the main stars, nor are any long-term routes charted. They can surely scan for the big stuff like nebulas and most stars and update the computers, bit by bit, but it'll take them decades at best to come back.

But I think they're going to drag Thrawn back and take care of him in Mando because what else can they do? They can't make him Snoke. They can't have him running roughshod over the NR. He's been neutered into another run-of-the-mill Imperial villain. He'll show up, cow Gideon or work with him with his repaired Star Destroyer that somehow has survived for a decade or so still with crew, then blow up when his bridge does.
Or they could do something different and interesting, like have him opposing Gideon. As I said upthread, I'd put money on Palpatine putting Thrawn's name on Operation Cinder's kill list. The whole point of that was to dismantle the Empire and remove his most loyal and useful pawns to the Unknown Regions to build the First Order. If anyone could have rallied the Imperial military post-Endor and kept the Empire together it would have been Thrawn. He certainly wouldn't have allowed them to get penned in at Jakku.
Assuming Gideon is an agent of Palpatine, it would make sense that he wouldn't be thrilled with Thrawn (who's allegence was only conditional to begin with) popping back up and disrupting his plans.

Anyone else getting a little sense of deja vu about the thought of a story of Grand Admiral Thrawn attempting to rebuild the Empire seven-ish or so years after Return of the Jedi?

Well its stated in the books that a 1/3 of the imperial fleet survived until the official truce and remained unaccounted for.
And its also new canon that the empire at its height had 25,000 imperial sta rdestroyers alone. A third of that is a lot.
They might not be able to overun the core worlds now but they can cause havoc in the outer and midrims.
I can imagine Thrawn giving it a go to bring back at least some sort of order to the still chaotic Galaxy, but even then, he can only be successful for so long before either the New Republic finally figures something out....or Palpatine's agents stop him for being too noisy while the Master is regenerating with his Eternal Sith brand knock off fanatical Empire, and converting Ilum into Starkiller Base for laughs.
