Will Saru ever get a romance?

It struck me today that Saru - as he has been portrayed onscreen - has basically been shown as asexual. He has never expressed any sexual or romantic interest in anyone, of any gender, or any species. Indeed, his only substantive interactions with his own species were with his sister - which seems notable, given they could have given him some sort of romantic backstory, but chose not to.

Regardless, I would like to see some deepening of Saru's character here. It would be a nice Easter egg if they could get Sally Hawkins to play a romantic interest, but I'm sure that wouldn't happen.

Possible, but not likely.

He has no life outside of Starfleet and he's the Captain of Discovery, so he'll be friendly with the crew but not romantic with a crewmember. He'd only meet someone from outside. I don't see where or how that'll happen with the way things are right now.

Maybe he'll have a long-distance relationship and meet someone on the 32nd Century equivalent of a dating site... but... no.

Too few episodes in a season to focus on personal matters. Too many episodes focusing on Burnham going rogue. We had to get a Short Trek just to find out more about him.

I think, being the only one of his species in Starfleet, he adopted the stance of always being alone. But with his homeworld a UFP member in the 32nd Century, there are now possibilities. Actually it would interesting to see another Kelpian officer and how Saru would react to that. And that officer to him.

The crew will deal with their hormones with the new holodecks (Discovery having holodecks is now confirmed in one of CBS' websites). Saru won't bother romancing a real Kelpien.

I'm assuming that if the writers of Star Trek Discovery think that Saru should have a romance. They will write a story of Discovery have to go to Saru home world for some reason, or have a female of Saru people visit Discovery.

It’s only ace if they establish it’s because of a lack of interest and not a lack of options.

We don’t know much about Kelpian mating. We don’t even know if they do it the mammal way or if they are egg laying. And if they do we don’t know if they would ever be aroused by a human shaped person. The way he moves his arms when he walks suggest major differences in skeletal structure.

Well like Picard, Doug may say.. Saru needs some action and adventuer!
Doesn't have to be the burnham power hour all the time.
