Especially as that would be a time travel episode.

"OH MY GOD, YOU KILLED PIKE!"

"That's not supposed to happen yet!"

Please crossover in Roger Rabbit style, where the 2D animated characters remain 2D animated but nobody acknowledges any discrepancy.

LDecks in live action on a little cameo or a Short Trek would be so cool, so epic in Star trek history that blows my mind.
But just like a sparkle, Lower Decks belongs to a cartoon universe to me.

Well it appears that Akiva Goldsman is also a fan of the crossover idea. I think they could make both casts meet “halfway” with rotoscoped cel shaded animation of the actor’s performances. A bit like the last episode of Fringe with Leonard Nimoy when he couldn’t do live action but could still do voice acting. And you know who co-write that episode: Akiva Goldsman.

If any of the LD characters turn up in live action, IMHO they should play it straight. Leave the comedy for the animation.

The best I could see is getting is the California-class appearing onscreen, and possibly name drops at some point in the future. The whole point though, is that this ship and its crew are unimportant and barely noticeable in the fleet - it wouldn’t make sense for them to be crossing paths with the likes of Picard, etc.

I picture it as some sort of dimensional time portal that both crews find. When crossing through it you switch from 2d to 3d and vice versa, so you'd never have to do Roger Rabbit. The real question is, do you have the characters comment on it, for comedy, or do they not notice anything, thus showing the medium doesn't matter. Perhaps they just think something is "off" but can't put their finger on it.

Oh! Oh! They could do a holodeck "Badgy" style thing where the Lower Decks cast are recreated in cartoon form!

That's almost as crazy as a live action Beavis and Butthead. Yes, people actually considered this.

If they do a live version then I'd want it to be a movie. Maybe dial back the comedy a little. Humour at Marvel movies levels would work great.

We could also have them over comms in PIC, or maybe just get a name-drop, kinda like the

On the other hand, from 2021 Star Trek will be filmed with VR screens, so recreating backgrounds will be much more inexpensive

So long as they don't use it for identical desert locations. I want them to go fucking bonkers.

You mean you *don't* want to see Vasquez Rocks in every other episode? But that's what every planet looks like. /sarc

Personally, wrt LDS going live action, I'd love to see individual characters making live appearances.
-A flashback from the Dominion War or Cardassian occupation featuring Shaxs
-Out-of-Starfleet Mariner using a connection with Captain Boimler to help Picard somehow (Mariner recurring, Boimler a scene or two)
-Out-of-Starfleet Rutherford featuring in a Picard plot, something to do with anti-synth bias and how his cybernetic implants made him a pariah in Starfleet
-Tendi doing something BIG for the Federation so that Discovery makes a note of her. We see her real (with Orion makeup of course) face on a data readout.

Just some ideas. They could make it work without ruining Lower Decks.
