    Surprise!

Well not really given that some of the behind-the-scenes footage released during Series 12 kind of gave it away when it showed him being directed by the director of ROTD rather than FOTJ.

if those are sontarans, it must have physically hurt chibnail to have to use actual Doctor Who aliens in an episode, especially after having to use a dalek last time. It turns out you can literally remove the doctor from the show, but the BBC or some connected group still wants to sell recongniseable merch.

We already had Judoon, Time Lords and Cybermen last series. This comment feels very, post-series-10, pre-Revolution.

I forgot the jadoon and cybermen, although they barely count, but killing all the time Lords doesn't count as using them. Anyway, it's obvious they would not reuse any aliens if they weren't forced to, they don't even use the doctor anymore, I just find it funny to see a classic Doctor Who alien return almost certainly against the producers wishes.

Why? The Judoon had an entire episode and the Cybermen were build-up throughout the series, and having three (IIRC) episodes where they're either the main or seconadary villain.

They didn't just kill them, they also massively expanded on their origins, in a way that hasn't really been done before. Was that good? Meh, honestly I don't care, I like to take a "everything counts" approach to Who canon, so I don't really feel massively impacted here. But they definitely used the Time Lords as an integral part of the series.

Chibnall has been a lifelong fan, hell, (according to wiipedia), he even critized Trial of a Time Lord when it was airing, which is funny to me, since he was critizing a not-very-well-received Doctor at a time where the show wasn't doing very well. He's clearly a real fan. I was under the impression, that the lack of use of recurring aliens in series 11 was more of a "we're bringing all these aliens back all the time, it's undermining their scariness" thing. Hell, I remember people complaining how the Daleks getting defeated time and again in recent years made them a lot less menacing as a threat.

That critique by young Chibnall of DW '86 is getting more and more ironic all the time.

Because I live in the Reality Based Community instead of the Kirk55555 Cinematic Universe, none of this makes a bit of sense to me. I watched "The Timeless Child" this afternoon along with the worldwide tweetalong and saw plenty of the Doctor in the episode. Two, actually, with speaking parts. So I don't really know what you're on about.

The doctor is a timelord, the first Incarnation of which was a man who we saw, originally played by William Hartnell. regeneration did not come about by some dimension-hopping kid, and even if it had that kid would not be the doctor because we know who the Doctors first regeneration was. everything about the Timeless child is invalid, even more so then that idiots master plan from the 80s that never got made. I expect the person who takes over after chibnall, hopefully sooner rather than later, will retcon it all the way anyway, but until then the show officially does not star the doctor, it stars some random interdimensional asshole that stole the doctor's name.

this is just an original show that chibnall probably unsuccessfully pitched and got rejected, so he renamed the pitch to Doctor Who so he could just make it under cover of pretending he was making the show the BBC hire him to make. It's a common trick of writers/producers, although it rarely works on such a famous franchise.

I don't know why you bother watching, then. I've said this to you before -- if you hate Chibnall's Who that fucking much, then stop watching it. Life's too damn short, especially in these pandemic times, to spend the little of it that you have watching things you're predisposed to hate. Watch kitten videos. Spend time with puppies. Eat key lime pie. Stop watching Doctor Who. That seems like a sensible life plan for you.

FWIW, I can think of a half-dozen ways of retconing the reveal in "The Timeless Child" away. Chibnall may have, in true comic book fashion, done that with the express intent of undoing it at the end of his run.

Picture quality is terrible, but here it is (Chibnall shows up shortly after the two minute mark):

I'm going to watch what I want, and criticize what I want. The shows not only going to be watched by people who agree with you, unfortunately. To be fair, I'll be skipping any episode that doesn't have relevance to an overall plot, and if they produce another episode based on historical events they should never been allowed to touch, like the Rosa Parks and companions grandmother episodes from either last season or the Season before, I'll definitely be skipping them.

But I will be watching and severely criticizing all of his timeless child bullshit, if for no other reason than to keep up on how he's destroying the franchise.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Why bother arguing with someone who has made it clear that he has mind set on hating everything and that arguing with him is a complete waste of time. Instead of letting him and others like him drag the conversation down, can we go back to celebrating the fact that Captain Jack is finally going to meet The Thirteenth Doctor in the next episode, whether it's Christmas or New Year's Day?!

The cognitive gymnastics you put yourself through to justify why this show "isn't" Doctor Who must get you through a fucking vatload of Voltarol.

It's true, this thread doesn't have anywhere near the appropriate amount of squeeing over this. 2020 may have been a raging dumpster fire, but this maybe just the thing to make it all worth it.

For the entire 41 seconds of that clip, all I wanted to do was reach in and straighten his tie.
