Then it sounds like you wouldn't have accepted Post-Berman Star Trek no matter who was in charge of it. What makes you think Axanar is any more in touch with the "soul" of Star Trek?

Axanar is a boring vaporware tech demo that thinks the Enterprise was built to be a warship. Talk about not getting it. I’d rather watch 100 hours of Tilly and Stamets nerding out than even 5 five minutes of Alec Peters woodenly asking what percentage the shields are at for the nth time.

There are more than a few things I don't like about DSC but I try to pick my battles and recognize when the series does things correctly, and this year feels more like "classic" Trek(1964-2005) than any season of the series to date. Of all the issues I've had with the show canon status and no "soul" aren't two of them.

Yes, Kurtzman wants to make his mark on the franchise, but that’s what any creator should do. If the only way to make “good Trek” is to tiptoe around the various pieces of canon, then what’s the point?

Internal continuity should and has been respected when necessary, but sometimes it just needs to be bent a little.

I take everything RMB says with a lick of salt. I remember when in 2015 he declared that the "fully revised, locked" Axanar script was "the best Star Trek script ever," and then we got a look at its laughable quality.

On top of that, the Spoilery tweets that kicked off this topic are exactly why I have largely exited social media, because it mostly rewards attention whoring by means of expressing outrage w/o concern about ruining anyone else's enjoyment. Frankly, it's all a "look at me me me being outraged" literal race to the bottom.

Ira Steven Behr did a lot of things that didn't mesh with TOS and TNG. Yet here were are, with most of us on here praising DS9 as one of the greatest Trek series ever produced if not the best.

Behr both deconstructed Star Trek and added to the mythology without destroying continuity.

I completely abandoned STD this season, but can't they still slingshot around the sun? Since the USS Discovery presumably can still use its warp drive, they can travel in time with impunity.

Yes, I know that Spock's slingshot time travel wasn't invented during discovery's original time, but Burnham in Discovery can basically do anything the writers feel like, so I'm sure she could whip up a time travel formula straight out of her rectum even if it made no sense. Hell, they can even just find some record of his time travel formula somewhere.

That said, I'm morbidly curious how this show can destroy Star Trek even more. It's literally made the rest of the franchise obsolete by showing that the Federation Falls to Absolute bulshit, what more can it do? The only thing it could do is, through time travel shenanigans, eliminate the entire franchise history, but the reboot movies already did that, it would just mean Discovery is in its own universe.

But, this is Discovery. It will always find the way to be the absolute worst. That's what happens when literally everyone involved hates the franchise.

Regarding DSC being in the Prime Universe...it's one thing to have an opinion, even an unpopular one and voicing it, but stating that DSC does not take place in the PU is just factually wrong and there's a huge difference.
I know it's 2020 and after years of 'alternate facts' we reached the point where everyone seems to live in their own reality, detached from the realities of everyone else, picking and choosing facts the like and don't like as if they were optional, but....that's not the truth, isn't it? facts stay facts.
