On Twitter, Robert Meyer Burnett is saying that the upcoming two parter "Terra Firma" will ruin Trek canon.

    And this...

    And finally,

Now I know that RBM is a critic of Discovery. It certainly would not be the first time that a "hater" cries that Trek is ruined forever when it really isn't. Maybe "Terra Firma" won't be that bad?

But what could he be talking about? The mention of Harlan Ellison seems to be a reference to the Guardian of Forever. And the mention of crossing time and space and universes makes think that it will involve time travel or multiple universes.

Does Michael use the Guardian of Forever to undo the Burn or reset the entire Trek timeline? Will "Terra Firma" erase TOS or imply that classic Trek was the wrong timeline? I could see that pissing a purist like RBM off.

    Thoughts?

Something to do with Canon. It's the one thing that gets Toxic Fans more riled up than anything else.

If they're going with Multiple Timelines and it reminds him of Doctor Who... then I'm going to go out on a limb and say they'll show how through Multiple Timelines, "Calypso", the look of TOS, and the Kelvin Films can all co-exist with the rest of Star Trek.

There's probably some "City on the Edge of Forever" connection if it's getting this guy that upset. Maybe the Guardian of Forever can show multiple timelines and not just one? If I had to guess. It would fit with his reaction. Retroactively revealing anything new about TOS has a history of triggering them.

The explanation for how the different timelines can coexist might be really dumb but I would not consider that to ruin canon though.

I think it is more likely that Terra Firma will retcon some big piece of Trek canon.

I think it is Guardian of Forever, that is the connection to Harlan. And other Trek series stayed away from it.

with the ban of time travel by the Federation I was wondering if Guardian would at least get a mention.

As I said in the other thread I expect this 2 parter to set up the Section 31 series or plant some seeds for it. S31 show runners (Erika and Boey) get the story credit here.

Wait, is this the obligatory the crew travels back in time into the modern 21st century episode?

Frankly he’s p*ssed me off with these tweets. Not him hating on it - I’d never be mad at someone for not enjoying something. I’m mad his “vague” hints have clearly suggested what the episodes will be about, which borders on spoiling them for people watching the show.

And if he really cared about Harlan Ellison, he’d be more mad that Star Trek (in Ellison’s view) BUTCHERED his story. Ellison hated the changes made to City on the Edge of Forever, and yet this new Trek series is what he’d be “raging in heaven” about? Give me a f*cking break.

Maybe I’ll hate these episodes too. Maybe I’ll love them. But don’t spoil things for people because you’re mad.

Good. Maybe he’ll stop FUCKING TALKING ABOUT IT EVERY DAMN DAY. Seriously he fucked himself associating with Peters and Axanar. He’s been bitter since they passed on his and Singer’s Federation idea. Just STFU.

I wonder if Section 31 was behind the Burn. Perhaps Section 31 caused the Burn on purpose because they saw it as the only way to save the Federation from itself or from some other greater threat.

How the hell does he know? I doubt CBS gave him a press copy.

I guess he might have friends in CBS or the press?

Given his "association with modern Trek" amounts to endlessly whining about it, the end sounds like a good thing for all concerned.

Screeners for those episodes don’t go out for 10 days. I doubt ANYONE on the production team talks to Rob. Probably talking to Doomcock and on 4Chan.
