I love this view of the retrofit Discovery. That's not a bad looking ship at all.

"dow dow" is one of the worst sound effects in the franchise though XD

I just remembered that the shuttle in the Saru Short Trek was also different from the one in Disco S2 (Shenzhou instead of Archimedes), so Calypso having a different Disco is not the first retro error in SHO, which is more experimental anyway

I don't think this is true, since you don't know the exact time the event started at its point of origin. With just three boxes, by fixing each possible speed of the effect you would get two different possible points of origin. So, when the speed is unknown, one can narrow the origin down to a single line, since the lines formed by the two points at each possible speed intersect when coplanar with the boxes. I believe a fourth box should be able to narrow it down to a single point and determine the speed. (I made a prior post on this subject in this thread where I think I was wrong in my conclusions, so please correct me if I'm wrong here too. It's been fun thinking through this geometry problem.)

In any case, it doesn't really matter since the characters will presumably need as many sources as the plot requires, and there are ways to justify requiring an increased number of data sources. Having less accurate or synchronized clocks, or having more than one source would make the triangulation (quadrangulation?) of the source(s) less accurate with fewer boxes.

I listed a myriad of differences in the retrofit thread. But the bottom of the secondary hull had a noticeable box shaped section. Did they remove it, or make the areas to the sides thicker to match up?

Might just be the angle, but the pylons look less swept back now, too?

It does appear that certain elements of the outer hull have been smoothed-out. The spine/strong back also looks like it was given a more curvy and lower profile.

Very much looking forward to seeing schematics of the updated design.

    This one gets a 9.

Primarily because I LOVED watching Michelle Yeoh play/be a bad ass. :D

I also liked the overall story execution in this one. I also like that they aren't keeping things status quo, have introduced and developed some interesting new additions and are moving the overall season story along at a decent pace.

Amok Time and, yeah, stealing a starship in TSFS -- out of 79 eps and 6 movies. And he's a starship captain. Both to save Spock, btw.

The whole "renegade Kirk" thing has been debunked ad nauseum.

Wasn't her solution in S1 "her v. the authorities," and she was right? Or did they opt to use her solution and she didn't have to go renegade? I simply can't remember. I think she gave a speech and convinced tptb.

So her going off on her own now, does show growth away from that (sticking with the team and trying to convince them) to doing it on her own.

I want points now for saying something pro-Burnham.

Part of my problem w/ her is because I go through life thinking and saying "But I might be wrong." I just can't stand people who are so sure they're right.

It's not so much that she hates authority and thinks she's right here but she's besotted with Book for some reason (which honestly despite the trailers is still out of nowhere because pretty sure last time Book showed up they were "just friends" category). If it were just the black box that needed to be grabbed and Book was chilling with Grudge on Risa or something, I don't think she would have disobeyed orders.

It's not so much Kirk that Burnham's turning into but Troi, where every alien guy of the week goes crazy over her not because of any organic development of the way their characters interact, but because the script says so.

Michael is now at about 50% Mariner now.

She better not go full Mariner. You never go full Mariner.

I must say, I like Admiral Vance, and am intrigued by his character. FWIW, I don’t think he’s being setup as the series villain.

I was actually thinking, no one knows what happened to Burnham's mother. But we do know she was running around that timeframe with an illegal time travel device and was completely fixated with Control. And Vance is pretty adamant about the no time travel thing. If Dr. Burnham didn't give up her red angel suit when the Fed demanded she hand it over, well...

I’m seriously enjoying this 3rd season. Forget about Riker’s beard, it’s Burnham’s hair.

oh yeah, Amok Time he violated orders for certain. I was speaking more about “Trouble with Tribbles” and “Galileo Seven.”

And the punishment he did face...I’m sure he and the crew (minus Spock) would still be in the penal colony to meet Tom Paris had they not saved Earth.

I dunno, I thought it was pretty obvious in ep3 that she and Booker were smitten with each other. And it’s a credit to the two actors because they are very believable as a couple. Far more than Burnham and Tyler.
