Spoilers Black Lightning - Season 3

Even if they don't change the show's title, I could see them using that as an episode title. Or at least The Outsiders.

I'm surprised the show did not use it already, considering the rag-tag group that supported Black Lightning in the run-up to the season's finale.

It's like Arrow... you have the main hero, but the shows elabirate on so much more.

ANd i know you hate BL on Earth Prime... but the "Outsiders" are what Freeland is to the rest of Earth Prime AMerica, and even the super heroes.

Since it operates that way in real life (like in Chicago, how DOwntowners and North Siders ignore the needs and good qualities of the black and brown West and SOuth sides), why wouldn't it be that way in fictional life?

And regarding Grace.... did we ever get a backstory or her (or him? or it?)? Hopefully we will finally get one.

I'm not sure, but I thought she might have told Annisa a little about her past once she found out about her powers.

Damn. I guess that could explain why they decided to start work on the Painkiller spin-off, it must be WB and CW's way of continuing the franchise and their collaboration with the Akils after BL ends. Although with BL ending, I would think they could just set it in Freeland, and leave things open for the other BL characters to make recurring appearances.

Wow, okay. Looks like the Arrowverse and I will be parting ways almost entirely after this season. I had already decided to cut back to only my favorites, which meant Supergirl, Black Lightning, and Superman & Lois (which is pre-favorited, sight unseen). Now two of those are canceled. Unless the CW adds something new that interests me (LoSH, anyone?), I’ll be mostly moving on.

So based on what we know right now, is this what 2022's Arrowverse will look like?
The Flash
Legends of Tomorrow
Batwoman
Superman & Lois
Painkiller

Of yeah, I'd include Stargirl and Wonder Girl. I kept thinking I was forgetting shows, but I wasn't sure what they were.

It's too bad because Black Lightning has been showing growth, expansion and change. It hadn't become static and staid like some of the other shows.
Yes. It's remained vital and creatively exciting week after week through three seasons, in a way none of the other shows have managed.

As people have been talking about its cancellation, I've seen comments elsewhere that it was too dark and depressing, but it honestly never felt that way to me. On paper, I can see where its themes and storylines were pretty heavy, but its consistent energy and inventiveness were such that I never processed the show as dour or dismal. On the contrary, I found it exciting, illuminating, and inspiring. Black Lightning's end is a greater loss to the Arrowverse than Arrow itself.

There is a universe of things to be said about Black Lightning ending so soon--and most of the mainstream and "geek" media will never touch any of those reasons, which shadowed this series from the start.

So it seems China Anne McClain was going to leave after Season 4 anyway, and in fact will have a reduced presence in the final season:

This is unfortunate news for the show’s upcoming season, because both McClain and Jen are awesome, but she apparently has some personal and emotional reasons for the decision, and I can only wish her well.
She will do a new buddy show with Keiynan Lonsdale with Rudy Rose as their exasperated supervisor titled Ex-Pats. :) I kid but these CW shows seem to spawn a lot of "come to Jesus" moments for the actors.

It's a shame we'll be seeing Jennifer, but I guess if it's what she needs to do, it's what she needs to do.

With Black Lightning gone at the end of its 4th season, and Batwoman's casting / plot changes being a major question in terms of quality, DC/CW's franchise will left in a pile of smoking rubble. Even if the Lois and Clark series meets some of its creative goals, it would be the equivalent of a raft floating along in the middle of the ocean.

BL fans may be interested to know that the first issue of The Other History of the DC Universe, written by Oscar-winning screenwriter John Ridley, is out now. It's a maxiseries looking at the DCU through the eyes of different minority characters, with this first installment being from Jefferson Pierce's POV. I haven't read it yet, but it's been getting a lot of rave reviews (as well as pissing off all the right people :techman:).
