Next week looks like an action packed rescue mission. Also i may have misheard but it sounds like Book is heading into the territory of a group called the 'Emerald Chain'?

The planet they're on appears to be the same one from the season's trailer where we see a Hiawatha type ship crashing. Which could suggest that design was intentionally chosen to represent "old derelict." And here people were whining about "ermagahd, why don't they design new ships for the future? CHILDHOOD RAPED!!! STAR TREK RUINED!!!!!1111oneone"

Now they're going to whine that the old ships don't include any recognizable Old-Trek designs.

Calling it now, Book isn’t getting his ship back.
One of the trailers shows Detmer flying Book's ship (with an Andorian in the background)

Yes, I'm already anticipating "where are the derelict Galaxy/Sovereign/Intrepid/Defiant/Akira/Curiosity class ships?"

Granted, that is a good way to bring back old starship classes, if they’re just a bunch of wrecks from different time periods from the 23rd century to the 32nd.

Emerald Chain is the Orion/Andorian alliance I think

Burnham's line about "we can't restore the Federation until we know the cause of the Burn" is just awful. I'm hoping it's a red herring rather than her being right.

It was an awful disaster...that happened over a century ago. All of the sudden there's tremendous urgency in solving it because Discovery is there?

I mean, it might happen again. Would be nice to know why it happened.

I mean maybe? But it only happened once a century ago. Why would you expect it to happen like next week, and not another 100 years from now?

I just don't get the sense of narrative urgency they're putting on this, unless there are some ongoing issues caused by the Burn.

Well if it wasn't a natural phenomenon, it might have been a targeted attack on the unified powers.

Don't you think if was a targeted attack whoever did so would have invaded/occupied former Federation space by now?

Hell, if it's localized, why hasn't anyone from the "unburned" areas migrated inward and set up their own fiefdoms?

Just like here on earth, bringing about the collapse of a political power doesn’t necessarily mean it’s about territory occupation. The US had a hand in the collapse of the USSR, yet it wasn’t wanting to occupy or run the block. I’m sure current day Russia is enjoying the political discourse happening in the US at the moment, that they had a hand in. Yet I doubt Putin would want to invade.

Star Trek has shown multiple times that there are planets that are hostile to the Federation, because of different beliefs, rather than wanting the quadrant for themselves.

Indeed yes. It seems if they restrict some warp travel due to the Burn then determining its cause would probably go a long way in beginning normal warp travel again.

It's urgent for Burnham, it might not be urgent for 32nd century starfleet at all. It's still kinda important to know why the burn happened because you don't want the bulk of your fleet randomly blowing up wether it's in a week or in a hundred years.
