Spoilers Will Saru tell the Federation/Starfleet the truth?

The 23rd century USS Discovery WAS in the official records and fought with distinction in the Klingon war. - what was 'covered up' was the manner of her loss - IE she was listed as destroyed by a matter anti-matter core breach. Also, at the time there was ZERO mention of the Spore Drive tech <--- And that aspect was what was treasonous to discuss.
Yeah- They didn't erase the crew's records (I don't think)- just that they disappeared/ KIA. 32nd century Starfleet should be able to look them up if records survive that far back. There might even be DNA info on file.

"A little from column A, and a little from column B."

That is to say, Saru and the crew will keep their secret until they know they could trust that the person they tell won't use that information against the Discovery and its crew.

Saru would be smart to stay separate from the current Federation until he finds he could trust them. He shouldn't come to them and say "Here we are, the Long-Lost USS Discovery reporting in to Starfleet/The Federation for duty, at your full disposal and waiting on you for our next assignment!"

Given that the Admiral played by Oded Fehr openly states that he cannot trust the Discovery crew and the implication from the trailers that the crew will have to earn Starfleets trust, I think Saru is going to have to be very forthcoming about their circumstances.

Or will have to come up with an elaborate and watertight cover story, whichever is more plausible and workable.

Its also possible Saru might not have much choice in being forthcoming with 32nd century Starfleet.
Hardly forced to cooperate, but he will probably need to express a certain... restraint when dealing 32nd century SF (which they in turn should understand).
