First off, Thanks to everyone who voted, and thanks to all who entered and shared in the last comp!

Now This month's challenge is this:
Imagine there was no Star Trek as we all know and love. Imagine back in the 1960s someone approached you to design the look to this new show called: Star Trek. You are essentially given Matt Jefferies job. Now it does not have to be the 1960s Trek, in can be now. But no visual cues from all/any Trek can be used..(you know what I mean, the iconic stuff that makes things Trek)
    Rules:
1: You cannot use what we know of Trek design in all its visual versions in your submission. The names of: places, races, people, ships, technology etc... are fair game, but no re-arranging of saucer, warp nacelle, hulls as the Enterprise. you could postulate on how Vulcans are going to look? Kirk could be a human woman...I think you get the idea.
2: You can enter any aspect of design (being the bridge, or the engine room, etc. Or you can submit a starship Enterprise, or the look of the Klingons, Vulcans etc.. But it must be an original thought as how you would like that subject of the show to be designed.
3: You can seek out a partner to submit a collaboration, but it needs to be specified as to who did what... (Like if I did the concept sketches and someone else did the modelling of those sketches.)
4: The medium can be anything: Drawing, CGI, Graphics, Sculpture, Model making, Schematics, etc...

As always the work cannot be something that you have done before...it must be new to this month starting from today's date to the end.

Please post here any questions on this...it is new for me to create a challenge, so just ask so I can clarify. I do hope I did not confuse anyone.

@Michael or any moderator please pin. Thank you greatly.

    This is great.

    Is this
    of significance?

And how much time do we have?

The era you want to tackle is up to you...meaning if you like to approach this challenge from the 1960s ideology, then go for it. If you rather do it from now or the 1980's, go right ahead. the Era is not important, what is important is that you cannot use anything from Trek that has been established visually. You are the designer. Trek's visual look is totally up to you. You can design any aspect of Trek: The ship, uniforms, bridge, insignia, races, race's ships, but it cannot look like anything that has been seen.

As for a time frame...I thought we only had a month...but seeing as this month has thanksgiving and next month has christmas and other holidays, would it be possible to have until December 15th @Michael ?

Thanks...this is my first contest offering, so I have no idea how this goes...lol
But I hope that this brings in some varied ideas: Everything from Logos to Uniforms. From Bridges and Engine rooms, to Starships. Aliens to Insignias! And Hopefully some epic Collaborations showing that Trek is a Unified Idea!
Regardless, I hope there is something here for anyone and everyone to submit something. The finest group of Trek fan-artists can be found nowhere else, so have at it mates!

Okay, if you have the finished work that was started on Friday(that's when the challenge officially started), then you can post it here. But if you are working on your subject, then you can create a thread with the title "STAR TREK: Redux" in the title. Then submit it here when you are complete or satisfied with it. You have until Dec 15th to submit it by (due to holidays).

I'm fine with making this a longer contest. You are right, people often have trouble finding time to enter one of these with the holidays and all. If people need more time on December 15th we can extend it to the rest of the month as far as I'm concerned. Then this can be the contest for both November and December. :)

Hey @Tet hRendevez! Just post your entry in this thread and you're good. :)

Ultimately it's up to you if you want to post a WIP thread. The people here love to see the progression of a piece, but everyone understands that that's extra work not everyone finds the time for.

Here are the basic rules for each contest (from the Art Challenge Guidelines):
    • the artwork you submit should be created during the month of the challenge
    • only one final image can be submitted (although it may contain multiple views)
    • your final entry should be posted in this thread (although dedicated WIP threads are appreciated)

I love the theme for this month's challenge - it will require some very creative thinking...

Aye, I agree. You are essentially playing "make believe" and becoming a head of an art department in charge of the look and feel of Star Trek, but with the catch, that you have to do your best not to draw (figuratively and literally) from it. Only the names of the characters, races, places, are there.

I’m not sure but as you are quite new here, you might need help posting images. But if you post regularly here at TrekBBS, you should be able to on your own using Imgur or something by the end of the month.

    Welcome to the board

    Couple questions:

    1. For clarifications sake, in our fictional universe, are we limited to designing a ship for a tv show? Or can it also be “what if Star Trek was a series of books” (like the old UESPA covers I did?).

My entry definitely works better as a book cover.

    2. My entry, while very different in shape to the Enterprise does have “wings” with jet like engines at the end. They’re visually very different from the typical warp drive, but essentially serve the same FTL function. Aside from that, nothing else about this Enterprise is the same at all. Is that okay?

1-Well, Ideally I would say the TV Show...But you could do a "poster" to promote the Show... that way you have that book cover feel kelpt ;)
BTW: you do not need to limit yourself to a Ship... you can design anything for the show.
2-Depends on how you present those engines...you are being challenged on originality.

    Brilliant! I can Dig it!
