Justice League official "Zack Snyder" cut on HBO Max

Can we just sum this up as saying that the DC Film Universe has as much continuity these days as the X-Men movies series? I mean... is Aquaman supposed to be a "prequel" to Justice League events? It didn't seem super clear to me.

For me, i think Snyder did some great things (such as casting, as well as Clark's childhood training), it got sabotaged by a lot of other decisions.

And i wonder -- how much influence did Geoff Johns yield in developing ideas? Patty Jenkins gave him a lot of credit for WOnder Woman. I really wish Johns had had more explicit control.

How i wanted the DC Film Universe to be like the MCU, is NOT having EVERY production explicitly connected (like the Inifinity Stones thing), but just that it FEELS like a connected universe. It might be a big crossover, maybe a small reference... but just where it feels connected. From a business standpoint, instead of dividing audience attention and enthusiasm, have such that each character might have a fan base, but a larger (maybe much larger, as we see with Marvel) group can follow EVERYTHING, and have just enough so they anticipate the next thing, rather than having to decide, "do watch /spend on this...or that", which is what the flood of DC material is doing (and even DC TV/Berlantiverse... which i love a lot; those 5 shows at once to me felt like overstauration)

This whole project is so dumb and weird, I can't wait to see what this train wreck is going to be like. Is he going to end it on the cliffhanger or is he going to give us the Justice League defeating Darkseid? Good grief...

The passing reference to the battle against Steppenwolf would seem to make it clear that Aquaman follows the events of Justice League. And the reference is vague and incidental enough that it will probably work just as well with either version of JL.

i guess i have to watch both Aquaman and Justice League again... because JL makes it seem like Arthur was fairly active as Aquaman beofre JL/Aquaman movie's main action. Also, didn't Mera & Arthur interact in JL?

But in Aquaman, it seemed like that was their first time meeting (though i think Mera already knew about Arthur).

And with WOnder WOman, her lost love of Steve was "a long time ago", but maybe not so much with WW84. (Though my kids would certainly disagree with me on that one ;) )

I am cool with ignoring these minor inconsistencies... but still adds to my perception that the DC Film Universe a mess for me

Agreed that I had the impression in the theatrical Justice League that Arthur and Mera knew each other, and found it odd in Aquaman when he didn't even know her name. But there's interpretive wiggle room in there. Regardless, there's no way Aquaman isn't post-JL, given the Steppenwolf mention.

But didn't he have his Aquaman costume in JL? (Which he gained through the events in Aquaman)?

DO you remember which scene had the Steppenwolf mention?

I'd have been happy if Avengers ended with Infinity War, so I'm cool with the cliffhanger ending.

So Snyder said that if he'd gotten around to it, he'd have cast Carla Gugino as Catwoman to Affleck's Batman.

Idea being, apparently, that she was his ex-wife and she'd retired from being Catwoman to be a rich art dealer. But she and Bruce would reconcile over the course of the Justice League multi-part story.

I AM happy that Snyder realized you'd need an actress closer in age to Affleck for it to work and Carla is always entertaining to watch. And the idea of them having been married at one point as opposed to the usual song-and-dance is another nice idea.
