Imagine reading 900 years of history, including how friends and families turned out, and perhaps having distant relatives in that far future, and being interviewed by historians who got everything wrong XD

As long as we get to see a picture of Benjamin Sisko clearly labeled "Jean-Luc Picard" next to a diagram of the Enterprise-B, I'm all in for meeting 32nd century historians.

Well considering Benjamin Sisko became Gabriel Bell (for real in Universe); hey, stranger things could happen.:whistle:;)

Our archives are very precise. It's likely that the historians of the future will know a great deal more about us than we do ourselves. Secret meetings, negotiations, secret services of all countries will no longer be a secret. Not to mention that they'll have tools that we can't even imagine.

    [*Me, after thinking about it*]

"No, come to think of it I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened."

I would imagine some words from various languages have crossed over into Federation Standard/English, but there would be plenty of examples of words and whole phrases that it would be improbable to have crossed over. A few off the top of my head:

It would have been awkward in TNG when Picard was trying to boost the spirits of the children he was with in Disaster if the UT translated "Brother Jack, are you sleeping"

In TNG's "Lower Decks," Worf tries to get Ensign Sito to realize that she was being treated unfairly for her past transgressions by making up a Klingon test that he labels in Klingon something like "battle to the death." The UT doesn't translate the name of the ritual into Standard, and Sito only belatedly puts togehter the true meaning of the phrase after she realizes the real lesson. When she confronts him about it, he's like, "Ah, you speak Klingon."

Anyway, didn't mean to start a long digression. Just noting that the UT is taking a coffee break when all this pidgin is being used.

Speaking as a historian, painfully aware of how rapidly records we thought to be secure can degrade, how rapidly data storage methods change and become obsolete, how little it sometimes takes for information to be lost, I wouldn't bet on us leaving as much evidence for future generations as we think we will. More, perhaps, than previous generations left for us, but not as much as we think we will.

How much detailed knowledge has survived from the TOS/TNG eras to where Discovery is now, that remains to be seen!

It's an easy out for Discovery writers, if something that happens in Picard doesn't entirely line up. Or vice versa.

"Records were lost! We tried to piece it together the best we could! What do you think?"

The way this country's been going I wouldn't be shocked if we make it legal for certain famous women under the age of 35 to run and serve as President.

The weird choices for President only happen once every 30 or so years.

"Who's President of the United States in 1985?"
    "Ronald Reagan."
"Ronald Reagan?! The actor?! HA!!!! Then who's Vice President? Jerry Lewis?!"

"Who's President of the United States in 2020?"
    "Donald Trump."
"Donald Trump?! The Reality TV star?! HA!!!! Then who's Vice President? Jerry Seinfeld?!"

Actually, Jerry Seinfeld would make a better vice-president than whatshisface.

A rabid monkey flinging poo at a dartboard with policy decisions on it, and picking the policies the poo sticks to would be better that Trump. It would probably be more consistent too. ;)

I feel bad for whoever was President of the Federation when The Burn happened.

The Herbert Hoover of the 31st Century and no FDR waiting in the wings.

I don't care who the candidate or president is, and what party they belong to. We don't need this to get started in this thread.

    A thought...

That's what the show is going to be about.

Burnham's not going to become captain of the Discovery. No, she's going to become President of the Federation.

Oh boy will some heads explode.
