Actually what Scotty said in the episode was that the Romulan cloaking device had to be hooked into their deflector shield grid to function properly. I assume that was so it would radiate whatever energy field was required to make the ship invisible. Yes it required power but I doubt the source of power was an issue.

Actually Scotty wasn't. The dilithium converter assembly (shown in "Elann Of Troyius"); was recessed into the reactor unit, and rose up to display a rectangular dilithium crystal. In the episode, "The Enterprise Incident", Scotty's working over ian exposed flat area with some exposed transistor circuitry (Yes I'm a true nerd.)

You are mixing plasma coils up with warp coils.

Also it is not THE transmission medium, there are others that can be used, hence them using optical cable power transmission in some places.

You're mixing up the power they use throughout the ship with the specific plasma power used for the warp engines.
They do convert some of the plasma to run the internal workings (thus the term Plasma Coils), but the pure plasma stream goes through the crystals then to the engines to charge the Warp Coils.

I'm sorry but GNDN. Everything in Trek goes nowhere and does nothing. trying to make sense of something that's completely made up and currently impossible is a little ridiculous.

The technology works as the story and plot requires.

Shit, I seem to have misplaced the memo that established that Star Trek was hard science fiction and every single episode was drafted by throngs of actual scientific experts covering every field imaginable.

I mean, the Federation Council doesn't make any sense if the Federation is an actual state and government as opposed to merely an ineffective analogue to the United Nations (I mean, how would a unicameral legislature with only 150 members effectively and democratically represent an interstellar population of trillions?), but I won't complain. Star Trek is written by writers, not political scientists.

They have already taken over: they're the gardeners, and they can harvest at will. But if the stupid vegetables can't get dilithium, it's not the business of the Borg to provide it: they cultivate organic.
