Yeah the scene where he accepts his fate is well acted and moving, but you can tell it was done just to fit into TOS. After all, the other people who touched the crystal were determined to change the outcome. The bridge crew were shot and killed by Control, theyBut isn't that same future set in TOS as well, we know he gets the funky wheelchair that's set in stone how he got there is subject to interpretation and I think Discovery did a good job of thats
changed that fate.
The time crystals shows a possible future not the only future, so Pike does not need to have that accident, and end up in a beeping box.
If they go back in time and rescue him, 31st century medicine should have him walking and talking in no time, I will stand up and cheer.

What is to curse? No one knows what happened to Pike after he was taken to Talos.
If Discovery went back to get him and take him and Vina to the future, old canon is preserved, new canon is created.
(Not that I care what the Reverend Trek, holy purists think)
