"Star Trek: Discovery has no chill. It’s probably my biggest problem with the show—the way it’s constantly hitting the same three or four emotional beats with little regard to narrative logic, structure, or pacing... This is still a show more interested in manipulating the audience into caring than trusting us to get there on our own terms. That’s a bad sign for any series. For whatever reason, it just feels worse coming from a Star Trek show...

...another one of Discovery’s 'uplifting' moments where inspirational music plays and Michael gets that determined look in her eyes, and we’re supposed to be inspired as though just the act of believing in something is heroic, without regard to what that something means [in the year 3188]."

That's nice. Try posting your own thoughts and answering my own questions instead of dodging them and copying what someone else said.

If you can't argue your points yourself, then why should I be talking with you? I should be talking with whoever you cut-and-pasted from. At least I'll know their thoughts are coming from them and not someone else.

to borrow from the A.V. Club's review of the Disco S3 premiere, re: the quasi-religious, mystical mumbo-jumbo melodrama that bedevils Kurtzman video products:

THE FEDERATION IS NOT MUTHERCRUNKIN CAMELOT.

Just watching the penultimate episode of Season 2, why on Earth did Spock volunteer to leave his beloved mother to live in the future? (Crazy idea of the writers)
And how did Siranna learn to fly a fighter spaceship so quickly?
And everyone but Tyler volunteers to leave their families and loved ones behind to live in the 31st century? (Who wrote this?)

Yeah, that was kind of dumb. It was a non-starter too since everyone knows he's not going anywhere.

They should've just had him say he'll fly Burnham out ahead of Discovery so she can use the Angel Suit, so they can still have their last goodbye, and it would've done the same job.

Plus considering the major change the Kelpians are going through, I cannot believe Saru leaves them behind. I will find it funny if 930 years later they are running a dictatorial planet causing local mayhem in their sector and their history books worship the great Empress Siranna lol

I'd actually love that idea... I would especially love it if they were even doing their evil deeds invoking Saru's name as their mythical savior, and he'd have to come to terms with what he had unwittingly created.

A couple of things:

One, there's a quick interview with David Ajala about Cleveland Booker, my new favorite character™.

A few of the things that stood out to me...

...does Book trust Burnham and does Burnham trust Book? David weighed in on this exact question.
“I think for Cleveland Booker it’s not so much the case of who he trusts and who he doesn’t, I think he’s just a one-man team, a one-man band, that operates very effectively by himself. He’s learned to be self-sufficient. He doesn’t have to rely on other people. Those reasons will unfold throughout the season. So in terms of bumping into Burnham, I think what transcends his concept of trusting her or not is there’s something in her eyes that he recognizes. It’s someone who is duty-bound to fulfill a purpose that is greater than themselves. It’s not something he gives away in any instance with Michael Burnham, but he recognizes it, and it’s enough to allow him to go against his better judgment to help her.”

Book and Burnham will be at the center of season 3, and David teased how their relationship will evolve.
“It’s going to be really cool to see that dynamic develop because our first introduction to these two characters is to see them in a state of complete hostility towards each other. Well, more hostility from Book towards Burnham than Burnham towards Book. So to know that that’s the introduction, and then throughout the season, we see how these two individuals are very different but also very similar. It’s going to be really charming to see how they bring out the best in each other, and challenge each other’s concepts of what’s right and what’s wrong, what works and what doesn’t work. I’m really excited for the fans to see how that plays out.”

There was most definitely a spark between Book and Burnham. When asked about these two characters potentially entering romantic territory, David was quick to tell HollywoodLife:
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t know what you’re talking about… Platonic.”

During the season 3 premiere, Book mentioned The Burn, a mysterious event about 100 years prior where the “galaxy took a hard left.” David talked about how the premiere and information revealed in it will “serve a purpose” later in the season.
“So when we talk about The Burn, we’ll understand how The Burn has greatly impacted and affected many galaxies. We’re going to understand how The Burn personally affected Cleveland Booker, and we’ll also understand how Starfleet and Cleveland Booker are actually in the right place at the right time to hopefully find the answers that’s going to bring about healing for many, many people.”

Other than Book, the biggest scene-stealer of the season 3 premiere was Grudge, Book’s cat. If you already love Grudge, get ready to see more of Book’s furry friend.
“Grudge is very, very special to Cleveland Booker. If we’re talking about the concept of family, Grudge is part of Cleveland Booker’s family. What’s so wonderful about their relationship is his respect for Grudge and in turn Grudge’s respect and love for Cleveland Booker. I’m really looking forward to the levity that Grudge is going to bring to the show.” He also added that fans will continue to learn more about Book and his history, which will end up “tugging on the heartstrings a little bit.”

...I guess that's pretty much the whole interview. :)

Second thing: looking at Adira's uniform again...

...there doesn't seem to be any rank insignia anywhere.

Assuming Adira is in Starfleet, I wonder will the "militaristic" aspect of Starfleet be more toned down to non-existent in the 32nd century. Because oddly enough that is one of the things that I never really cared for in Star Trek; it's a little quasi-military. Sometimes it's a little overwhelming for my tastes, and other times not. But if it's done away with altogether... perfect.

I would be so happy I don't know what I would do with myself.

EDIT: Oh, and they need to sell those uniforms. I mean, c'mon... that's Halloween next year for me.

The two angular bars on the shoulder pads might indicate rank.
