Not every question. Just one.

It’s not the number of questions, it’s the scope of the single question (and all the follow-up questions that people of a certain inclination would be drooling after)

That one single question would require a hellish fanwank exposition dump the likes of which, unless that is the primary focus of the show, is completely unnecessary and inappropriate at this stage of the story.

Disagree. Don't work to hard try to disprove at matter of opinion, please.

I find it a bit disturbing that every bit of criticism is derided and apparently not welcome here.

I think that the episode left too many questions unresolved: at least tell us what the prevailing political structures are like. The chase was also a little overwrought. Nonethless, I loved that the episode focused mostly on Burnham's experiences and that Discovery has not yet showed up.
I don't mind if we only get the big picture in ep 2 or even 3 (only I wish it was then that she decided to rebuild the Federation).
I liked that, too. We saw this new world (or rather, time) through her eyes and that worked well for me.

I am looking forward to (hopefully) catching up with the Discovery next week. I'd prefer they pick up from the time they arrive, not just the time when they meet up with Burnham again.

ETA: the flag thing... yeah, it's probably a cultural thing. It's why I really disliked that short trailer where our heroes raise the flag or rally around it... reminded me of every horrible propaganda statue ever.

Trek has this habit (started in DS9) of naming the two parts of a two-parter differently (which I find annoying). Next week’s episode is part 2. It’s a two-part season opener, just like in DIS season 1.
It's not immediately connected though.

I don’t think it had the Sphere data, it was just to keep the time travel device away from Control.
The suit never had the sphere data, only Discovery did.
They put the data in the suit cause it has 'infinite storage', IIRC.

None of us have yet mentioned the great CBS PR deception. We got the advance “opening scenes” of Burnham’s arrival on the planet - except - they weren’t. The cold open with the stoic Indian-looking bureaucrat and his gender-fluid furniture was truly remarkable and totally unexpected. The way it served as a bookend for the final scenes was just brilliant.
And that music! What was that?

Well it probably a cultural thing.
Certain countries seem more attached to a coloured rag on a stick than others.
Like you it didnt do much for me.
The saddest thing I have ever seen is loads of people crying over a flag at a stadium (guess the country!)
Flags generally mean nothing to me, but the Federation and Klingon flags are important cause I'm a fan. The US flag is special to me cause it's the first and only hand-planted one beyond our planet.

I have no idea what you’re talking about. And it’s clear that we “disagree”. That’s what debate and discussion are for last time I checked.

And since I don’t really care about “the prevailing political structures” right now, it seems I’m in pretty good shape. It’s always been the least-interesting element of the Star Trek franchise to me.

I think trying to answer all those questions in a single 50-minute episode is not entirely realistic, neither from a time allotted standpoint nor from a story structure standpoint. And for every fan that would delightfully squee, there’s three who would bitch and moan about the exposition dump this would require...let alone whatever the writers decided to do with the Klingons and Cardassians as being #notmybreen or whatever other asinine pedantic thing we generally freak about.

We fans are a great many things, but “patient” is seemingly not one of those things.
I do feel there is a lot of expectations for a lot of exposition. Which, I mean, is understandable given that we just started a new season and the board is drastically reset. On the other hand, where's the fun in exposition dumps?

So, yeah. Patience.

Well its actually white now due to the colours degrading from the radiation.

Which kind of makes flags in space funny and pointless.

You seem to be going out of your way to make an opinion on something that is a matter of opinion invalid. You are not discussing our differences of opinion. You are not being an honest interlocutor.

I find it a bit disturbing that every bit of criticism is derided and apparently not welcome here.

Trademark “unpopular opinions being challenged equates to the victim complex response claiming oppression and silencing of criticism” post.

This is a little dramatic, don’t you think?

What’s confusing is why anyone who posts in a public form that is designed for debate and discussion is shocked and horrified when they are challenged by others.

There are indeed some things that can wait. However, there were too many things that could easily have been inserted into the dialogue that were either held back by Book or left for the viewer to fill in. It would have been nice to have a little exposition concerning what his trading entailed and why it was considered criminal.

A few months ago, I combined three trailer analyses and put them into what I figured was chronological order. From the look of it, we're going to see some of Discovery before they meet up with Burnham.

I'm assuming they're doing what they did with The X-Files Season 10. "My Struggle, Part I" was the season premiere. "My Struggle, Part II" was the season finale. Or maybe from now on every season will start with That Hope Is You and the premiere of Season 4 will be "That Hope Is You, Part II". This is all guess-work where I'm trying to think outside the box, so take it with a grain of salt.

Does anyone know why it’s called That Hope Is You PART 1..? That seems really odd... since there is no Part 2 in title..? Next ep is called Far From Home......

It's a two part episode with different titles for both episodes. Ds9 used to do this with some of their two parters.

I’m assuming the next episode will be the inverse of the premier, and will be the story of Discovery’s entry into the new timeframe. Maybe by the very end we’ll have a Burnham and Saru reunion?
