Once they merge into Paramount+, Star Trek won’t be their major draw anymore, certainly not for an international audience (which is what they will no doubt be aiming at). They’ll need to broaden their horizons with other original stuff, just as Netflix and Prime are doing. If it was just CBS All Access I would agree that they want for Trek to pull in their audience in the United States (which seems to be all they’re interested in right now, given how they have released neither Lower Decks on streaming services nor PIC on DVD/BluRay internationally). But with the situation being as it will be soon, Paramount+ can do without one of the Star Trek shows. It might even be wise to spend that money on other things.
Also, I have to ask... what’s different in January? The virus won’t have left by then and a vaccine won’t be ready either. If anything, the situation will be even worse than it is now because it’s winter and you have all the other flus and colds floating around as well.
Don’t get me wrong, I know Sir Patrick wants to shoot the second season ASAP - but I don’t want for him to endanger himself like this just for a television show, and I for one would not miss anything if PIC didn’t continue and he went on to do other things (it’s incredibly tiresome and exhausting, all the Fandom Menace hate directed at him etc etc, this is exactly why I never wanted for him to return to Star Trek).
