But Peanut Hamper didn't have the same personality as Tendi -- that's the point. There were superficial similarities in social temperament, but when the going got tough, Peanut Hamper became fearful and selfish and deserted her crew. Tendi and the others would never do that.
I'm honestly not sure what this is a reference to. What episode/film/novel/comic was set between 2371 and 2380 featuring a Saurian supremacist?
This. One of the most obnoxious habits of Star Trek (and of some Trekkies) is the tendency to assume all members of a given species think alike. Ask any five Americans their opinions on important topics, and you'll end up with 17 different opinions in conflict with one-another; there's no reason to think the same principle doesn't apply to ST aliens.
Wow, this was a great episode. I gave it a 9, but now I'm kind of wishing I could go back and give it a 10.
I loved the Pakleds as the bad guys, I did not expect that at all. It's pretty impressive that they actually managed to make the Pakleds threatening.
All of the stuff around Mariner's secret getting out was really funny.
Shax's death was a huge shock, I did not actually expect to kill someone off like that.
They really did a great job with the action in this one. This was probably their most action heavy episode yet, and they knocked it out of the park.
Loved Titan showing up to help out, I couldn't help but wonder if that was a reference to Riker showing up at the end of the Picard season. When I saw the design from the books, I was hoping maybe some of the book characters would show up too, so I was a little disappointed they appeared to go with their own crew.
It will be interesting to see how long Boimler's transfer lasts.
I loved the Pakleds as the bad guys, I did not expect that at all. It's pretty impressive that they actually managed to make the Pakleds threatening.

I enjoyed the whole series a lot, but this is the first 10 I give, really fantastic episode.

It's worth bearing mind that even if that officer had been a Voth, "Distant Origin" made it clear that there were dissidents in their society who did not agree with Voth supremacism.
But that’s what I’m talking about. Why does the show need even superficially similar personalities in the 4 main characters and now,, a guest character? I know the writers can come up with unique characters, we’ve seen them in other guest characters. I’d like to see some of that same creativity among the Cerritos crew.
Yeah, each stands out to me.
1) The main characters do not have the same personality at all.
2) McMahan obviously wanted the Peatnut Hamper story to be about how superficial similarities can mask fundamental character flaws from others.

I thought the same thing about John De Lancie when he did the 'Q' cameo two episodes previous. If his name hadn't been listed in the end credits, I wouldn't have believed it was him. Might be something with how the voices were recorded as I'm sure all the later episodes were done at home with makeshift recording setups.
The easiest explanation is that they were wrong about it not getting out. Wouldn't be the first time.

The Titan picked up the Solvang distress call (same as the Cerritos), they were just farther out according to the dialogue.
