At least come back as Norman Osborn.

I want Antony Starr to be the MCU Norman Osborn.

The closest analogy one might get would be to make Peter a youtube vlogger...which they kinda-sorta touched on with his little auto-biographic documentary. That couldn't go any further while he was still trying to keep his identity secret, but now he's been outed it might actually get released.

IIRC, wasn't he hired on as the Webmaster/IT Guy for the Bugle in the Ultimate comics?

Rumor that's making the rounds today. Marvel wants Tom Cruise as alternate reality Tony Stark/Iron Man for Doctor Strange 2. Maybe he can lead an Avengers team that has Tobey Maguire and Eric Bana.

I thought Jamie Foxx was awful as Electro, but this rumor is being picked up by a lot of sources. I'll believe it when I see it.

Ugh, I hope that one isn't true...but I suppose it could be tolerable for a small role in a multiverse fashion. Although...does Tom Cruise do small roles?

Maybe somebody as Sony Legal just discovered that he had a pay-or-play contract for a sequel and they decided that if he was going to get the money he might as well work for it?

No clue. Never read that run. Regardless, while that's totally a legit way to get a techie like Peter into JJJ's sphere for storytelling purposes, I'd hardly call that analogous to an old school freelance photographer.
This really isn't any different than casting JK Simmons is J Jonah Jameson in the MCU.
Well...not really. J.K. Simmons inhabited and defined the role to such an extent it's hard to imagine anyone else doing it as well. Jamie Foxx...did not. Even my Ryan Reynolds comparison doesn't quite compare since like J.K. he really was meant to inhabit the role and just wasn't given the opportunity to do it properly the first time. Unless Jamie Foxx really, really, REALLY relished the role and thought he had a lot more to bring to it than the film allowed him, this is kind of unprecidented.

Random thought, but wouldn't it be wild if they also got Terrence Howard and Ed Norton back to be in his version of the Avengers?
Bold of you to assume he doesn’t already have one!
Either way, Adam Savage would have him covered...

I saw the headline about Jamie Foxx in final talks, but assumed it would be a Sony spinoff movie. Had no reason to expect to see him in the third Spider-Man movie. I also certainly wasn't expecting them to go in the direction of Electro.

Now that would be awesome! And I say that as someone who really doesn't like Terrence Howard as an actor.

Both were some time ago but Magnolia and his cameo (as himself playing Austin Powers in a movie inside the movie) in Austin Powers 3 are the ones I thought of.
Ah, that's right. I forgot about both of those. Along with *shudder* Tropic Thunder, there's precedent.

Jamie Foxx has confirmed his return and that it won't be the same version of the character.

Good to read. That's more reassuring.

Since they gave us a fishbowl for Mysterio, I can't wait to see the Electro lightning mask :)
That does raise a good point since there's never really been a *good* design for Electro. They seem to range from goofy and unusable, to generic and forgettable.

I feel like with an actor like Foxx driving the performance, it's probably not a good idea to reduce him to a walking special effect. So you're probably either looking at something low-key. Hell, maybe tweak the origin so he gets his powers from an ill conceived attempt to recreate the Iron Man and the half-arsed arc reactor fuses into his chest. I mean the last two villains had a Stark Industries connection, so why not make it a hat trick? Come to think about it, Tinkerer is still in the wind, so maybe have the device be one of his?
