I loved Boimler's reaction to learning that Mariner is the Captain's daughter.

I'm pretty sure everybody in the Senior staff knows that Mariner is the Captain's daughter.
Well I was thinking... I don't believe that if someone has relatives in Starfleet is exactly a well guarded secret... I suppose it's something you can find in a personal file.

I don't know why it would be a secret in the first place?

It should be noted on your official records if you're related to anybody in StarFleet for "Conflict of Interests" reasons.

Exactly! Still I don't know who canonically can have access to this type of information. Senior staff I suppose it's obvious.

Not everyone has access to PIF...........You think just anyone can access your complete family tree or medical info?
EDIT: I was actually trying to reply to @Skipper but quoted the wrong post sorry @KamenRiderBlade

After being underwhelmed for the last few episodes, I rated that a 10. It was easily the best episode the series has done yet.

First, I loved the conceit that it was a "movie in a movie" (or TV show in this case) because it gave the show the chance to directly reference lots of Trek movie tropes. From the extended beauty shot of the "upgraded" Cerritos, to quoting Shakespeare, to the ridiculous crash scene, to the extensive use of lens flare early in the episode. There were a whole ton of visual references that likely went over my head on the initial watch as well.

Secondly, there's finally some sense of forward progression here. I've not been enjoying the last few episodes as much because they had a "nothing matters outside of the episode" vibe - which I realize is pretty TNG-esque, but made the drama seem kinda cheap. But in this episode - finally - we feel like Mariner has some forward motion. And of course Boimler found out the truth about Mariner, which we already know will be addressed in the next episode.

Thirdly, the episode ditched the A/B plot, which was used across most Lower Decks episodes. I certainly don't mind such a plot structure as an occasional thing, but the real reason it was originally used so much in Trek was to ensure that whoever didn't have any story role in the "A plot" still appeared in a given week. A lot of the episodes this season have felt a bit random because there was no coherent theme uniting the A and B plots. But here the B plot is ditched entirely, and it works wonderfully.

I had to watch a second time. Don't work out and watch Lower Decks at the same time. You miss way too much. :p

I actually really love this. Not only were there Star Trek film tropes galore, there were just some fun details. I think there's some film grain throughout the episode. There are a few cigarette marks in the upper right hand corner throughout the episode (which indicates a switch of film reel). And is it me but does the episode occasionally go out of focus like a poor projector op might cause? I love Shempo ("I was Shempo.") and the multiple spins around the saucer in the starship porn sequence. The Horner-esque score is great as is the Cerritos crashing. This is just fun.

Admittedly I'm a little surprised that no one knew about Mariner/Freeman, but okay. Its still nice character development for Mariner to show she really cares about Starfleet and her crew. Sometimes ya just need an outlet. Guess this was it for Beckett.

My first 10. Can't wait for the finale!

"Oh, hell yeah, Jett!" LOL!

And Spock didn't volunteer a lot of personal information. I mean...this is more than two centuries after humanity made First Contact with Vulcans and Kirk didn't know about pon farr.

Yeah but Ponn Farr is a very private Vulcan tradition. I think Spock says so in TOS. It is not something that Vulcans talk about with outsiders.
