DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

That is ridiculous. Shit is shit. Pretending that everything is good and we should never complain or want better is asinine.
Art is subjective not objective. And wanting better doesn't make everything the worst, or shit, or fucked over, or whatever other hypberbolic invective gets flung around because adaptations are not done to suit all tastes. DC is not out to appeal to only comic fans right now. And it's OK that it doesn't appeal to you. My favorite character is Robin but not all content with Robin in it is for me.

DC's non-comic media right now only really appeals to assholes (shows like Titans and films like Joker), Ayn Rand fanatics (Snyder's shit) and tweens (shows like Stargirl and the non-Flash CW shows). Sure, there is the occasional Flash TV show or Aquaman film to break that up, but I got big into DC in its golden age, 90s for cartoons and 2000s for the comics. Sure, the films weren't great at that time, but they weren't as bad as Snyder's crap, and the great comics made up for that. Current DC is just shit pretty much all around, and that sucks.

As for the comics, DC is by all reports in a bad place sales wise, even by the standards of the post bubble comic industry. Stuff like Batman might still sell, but they're definitely cutting back on things, including shutting down and moving most of their department responsible for comic collections. DC Comics itself is creatively bankrupt, ruled over by assholes like Jim Lee, Tom King and Scott Snyder, and the other DC divisions are in probably their worst spot in my lifetime (1990 to now, basically).

All things being equal, I love the DC universe 1000x more then I do the Marvel Universe, and I really, really like the Marvel Universe. But Marvel knows what it needs to be in its media (even if its comics division is currently lead by a racist white guy who pretended to be an asian woman to write comics, and was ruled by a right wing nutjob before that), and even with some shit there is still more then enough good stuff.

It all comes down to this: DC's media divisions hate being based on comics and try to distance themselves as much as humanly possible from the form of media that is the only reason that the films/tv shows/etc exist, while a lot of the MCU takes stuff from the comics and makes it fit into a live action format. They don't always succeed, but Marvel trys and when it works its the best superhero content ever made. DC movies and (most) TV shows are made by people that actively hate the comics, which is why they're in a shitty position right now.

You don't get to determine who DC's non-comics media appeals to, as hard as that might be for you to wrap your brain around.

Exactly. Everyone has their own tastes. That's what makes us who we are. There is no set in stone way something should be

We've got dark, light comedy and scifi flavors

DC is not what one person believes it should be or anything in general

Obviously someone is not getting the idea about "inclusiveness" that comics try to talk about

Precisely so. I mean, I grew up with the Adam West Batman-that is my Batman. So, imagine my frustration when Burton came along and did this stupid black caped Batman nonsense. If the internet had been accessible to me I probably would have had something like "#notmyBatman" or some nonsense like that.

Except, Burton's Batman did nothing my West's Batman. I still got to watch it, and enjoy it and nothing about what Batman did after West's Batman changed my personal enjoyment. And, my friends got a Batman they enjoyed.

I cannot comprehend the idea that somehow because a product isn't for me that it must be made for "assholes" or some other descriptor. Pretty sure Aesop wrote a fable about that.

I'm just amazed he doesn't comprehend that he opened a can of worms by calling people "assholes". Some people here might take offense at that.

They like the CWverse shows and now someone has called them out on it.

Take the high road like Marty Mcfly in part 3 and just ignore them.

It just amazes me how hard it seems to be for some people to understand that just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's bad, or that there is something wrong with the people who do.
I've enjoyed pretty much all of the DC stuff that's come out the last few years. Some more than others, obviously, but I've found something like in almost every time.

Honestly, with how often I feel like I need to say it (about various properties, including Trek) it might as well be in my signature line.

It's OK to like a film/movie/show and it's ok to not. Just let people enjoy what they like.

That isn't the nerd way. We're all nerds here to some degree, and we just have to live in a world where nerd rage is a very real thing to deal with.
Dealing with it is one thing but I will also point out alternative reactions to rage as well. Especially when many nerd fandoms encourage inclusion as part of their rhetoric.

Yawning. INTENSIFIES.

Snyder's movies failed, period.

Wrong in every sense of the word.

Making a profit doesn't mean they were successes

Yes, I'm looking at a couple of recent, non-DC franchises that best exemplify that.

People in general rejected his astetic and style of making "superhero" movies.

Since you do not represent the feelings of all moviegoers, I'm tossing that one in the trashcan and reminding you that no studio will ever invest the kind of money that's being used for the Snyder Cut unless there's a strong indicator that a profit will be earned based on a large enough audience who might guarantee it. The only misfires in this DCEU were the insipid Shazam and Suicide Squad--both (in no surprise) taking cues from another franchise. Mistake from the word "go".

Sharing some actors with Snyder's films doesn't mean he succeeded at anything

It is a single series. Learn the concept.

So. Much. Yawn.

Yawning. INTENSIFIES.

Exactly.

If 6 of the 7 DC Comics films being released in the next two years being explicitly set in the continuity that Zach Snyder helped create alongside Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer - three of which he is credited as an Executive Producer on - is Warner Bros. "rejecting his influence", more directors ought to be hoping that studios start "rejecting their influence" too because it's clearly very good for their reputations and their resumes.

Someone probably pulled out their hair after reading that.

You keep calling Shazam a failure, while WB is making a sequel. This destroys the rest of your point. Shazam also has 90% on RT, second only to Wonder Woman.

I liked Shazam and and about two thirds of Suicide Squad. I would have preferred the Golden Age or Ordway takes on Shazam, but the Johns take is okay. Suicide Squad takes a while to get going thanks to a clunky first act. The one DCEU film I thought failed was Birds of Prey. Man that was bad.
