Just make sure they give my butt the sensual contours it had in real life.

(But excellent choice of ship name! :techman: )

The guy with a name so Vulcan I accidentally named him when pulling a random Vulcan sounding name out of my ass.

Cute episode, but fairly unremarkable. I didn't find it nearly as fun as the first 3 episodes. I liked Mariner being protective of Boimler, but the A-Plot was a little grating. I thought the "B-Plot" of trying to obtain the new engineering tools was cute. I liked the whole surprise of the Chief Engineer wanting a "more standard" ship to serve on. I also thought the Captain trying to deal with the government of the endangered planet was good.

Average stuff, which doesn't mean it was bad. Just average.

5/10

Yeah I don't think it was entirely clear what his greater role was on the ship. Definitely an engineer of some kind, but uncertain if he was Chief.

Was he the chief engineer? I thought he was only the officer in charge of the operation.

It was actually just an assumption on my part. He seemed to have an office and was in charge of the little devices they wanted so badly. He had Lt. Commander's pips. I just kind of put 2-and-2 together based on that.

I went back and looked at his room nameplate, and it just said “Ron Docent - Lieutenant Commander - U.S.S. Vancouver”. Nothing about current duty station, unfortunately. Probably a fair bet that he is the Chief, though. Data was an LTC and he was second officer of the E-D, right after Riker. Geordi was also LTC when he was put in charge of engineering. Deanna and Beverly also both started off as LTC’s in Farpoint. At least, that’s what all their rank pips showed.

Actually when Geordi becomes Chief he just becomes a full Lieutenant, he doesn't get the Commander addition until S3.

I still think Boimler has a lot more game than Mariner believes. He's basically Wesley Crusher and he was like catnip to Robin Lefler.

Then again, I'm not entirely adverse to Mariner secretly crushing on her frenemy.

Also: When exactly did that parasite attach itself to Boimler, and why didn't it affect anyone other than Barb?

Maybe it is some kind one and done effect. He meets Barb right after getting “Lover”, then the effect is only directed towards that person.

Yup, much like Famke Janssen’s character in The Perfect Mate, once “bonded” to someone (Picard), that’s it. None other beyond that.

Mariner wanted to fix Boimler up with a Phylosian crew member? What if they decide to pollinate?!?
Bee bee bee bee BEE BEE BEE BEE BEE BEE!
What's next?
We wait . . . for the bee.
Bee bee bee bee BEE BEE BEE BEE BEE BEE!
The bee! It's coming! It's COMING!

I'm not ashamed to admit that I had to look that up. 38 years on this planet and I never even saw so much as a frame of this show. I only watched the first couple of minutes of that episode you mentioned, but this takes more than one cue from Flash Gordon, doesn't it? Really reminded me of Captain Proton with the design of the robot, the bad guy and the twin damsels-in-distress. But that's not where Michael Piller and Rick Berman got the name “Quark” from, is it?
