(But excellent choice of ship name!)
Was he the chief engineer? I thought he was only the officer in charge of the operation.
I went back and looked at his room nameplate, and it just said “Ron Docent - Lieutenant Commander - U.S.S. Vancouver”. Nothing about current duty station, unfortunately. Probably a fair bet that he is the Chief, though. Data was an LTC and he was second officer of the E-D, right after Riker. Geordi was also LTC when he was put in charge of engineering. Deanna and Beverly also both started off as LTC’s in Farpoint. At least, that’s what all their rank pips showed.
how come that Barb leaves Boimler as soon as the parasite is removed when they had been having a *long distance* relationship for a while?
Perhaps it simply amplified what was already there. Also: When exactly did that parasite attach itself to Boimler, and why didn't it affect anyone other than Barb?

Covered in the episode. Also: When exactly did that parasite attach itself to Boimler
Yup, much like Famke Janssen’s character in The Perfect Mate, once “bonded” to someone (Picard), that’s it. None other beyond that.Maybe it is some kind one and done effect. He meets Barb right after getting “Lover”, then the effect is only directed towards that person.
Latched on to him on the planet he met BarbI watched it a few hours ago but I don't remember that bit. How did it happen?
(from Quark: "All the Emperor's Quasi-Norms")Bee bee bee bee BEE BEE BEE BEE BEE BEE!
What's next?
We wait . . . for the bee.
Bee bee bee bee BEE BEE BEE BEE BEE BEE!
The bee! It's coming! It's COMING!
I'm not ashamed to admit that I had to look that up. 38 years on this planet and I never even saw so much as a frame of this show. I only watched the first couple of minutes of that episode you mentioned, but this takes more than one cue from Flash Gordon, doesn't it? Really reminded me of Captain Proton with the design of the robot, the bad guy and the twin damsels-in-distress. But that's not where Michael Piller and Rick Berman got the name “Quark” from, is it?Mariner wanted to fix Boimler up with a Phylosian crew member? What if they decide to pollinate?!?
